Hi,

Just wondering if there are other others in my shoes? I'm mid 30s, BMI of 48. We put off Ttc due to weight for over a year and have lost weight but still have the above BMI. We've decided life's too short and we're desperate to be loving parents.

I'm nervous of Other opinions in the medical field but it's all we've ever wanted - to be parents

Many thanks

I got pregnant twice very easily at a bmi of 36 - maybe just try and lose weight whilst your TTC, and hopefully, you'll get pregnant.

Good luck x

Thank you. We've not given up the weight loss journey whilst we try, we just got to the point we didn't want to deny ourselves the chance for it to happen ☺️x

Yes xx and in my advice dont put it off unless you have genuine health issues that would affect you or the baby.
I've a bmi of 46 also in my 30's, I got full fasting blood tests done and went for a heart health screening provided by my workplace before we started ttc bloods included tests for cholesterol, vitmain deficiencies etc and everything came back good.
I had a chemical pregnancy at 6 weeks recently, however I am recently testing positive again so fingers crossed that this will all work out OK this time for us.
While pregnant I am eating healthier than before, unfortunately due to work (working 2 jobs both office based and long long days 14 hours with commute) I have a very sedentary lifestyle, that's my main concern was that I am very unfit but hopefully it will all be OK x

Yes I've had two pregnancies with a bmi over 48 (can't quite remember the exact number) good luck 🤞🏼 I was lucky to have lovely midwife's and health care professionals that never made me feel awful for my size!
No.1 was emergency c section.. but purely because of fetal distress nothing to do with my size.
No.2 planned cs. My point with this, is that I healed amazingly dispute my lovely belly fold 😂 and recovered quickly. Just enjoy your moment ❤️

Heya @Loz1093would you mind me asking was there any trouble when having your scans? I have read they can struggle to get a clear picture etc if you have a larger stomach, its just something I'm a bit worried about I suppose x BMI is 46, I carry my weight evenly all over really but my tummy is large for sure, thank you x

Not all, ask anything you need! I remember 4 years ago feeling sick the thought of the unknown about having a 'bigger' bmi than what is considered 'healthy'!
I use to just lift my belly up so they could do the scans. I had to go back with both of my two for the 20 weeks scans, but the sonographer said it's because of how baby is laying.. whether that's the truth or because of my belly ill never know 😂
With my DD2 I had to have lots and lots of scans (which I loved because i got to see her growing bigger) because they picked up that I had a Low Papp A with that pregnancy. Very common and can happen to any lady, whether higher bmi or not. Anyway, those scans were extremely thorough and very detailed despite all my extra podge. Which like you.. is mostly on my belly 😁

Thank you so much this is so reassuring, I dont mind if I have to go back 20 times once they can actually see that all is OK 🤣😊😊
How did you find comfort when sleeping? We need a new mattress but i already feel so uncomfortable as my boobs are absolutely killing me. Wondering if there's a good pregnancy pillow I should invest in?
Also did you have to take asprin or extra Folic Acid or anything? Again all things I've just read online, will get to my own doctor later this week x

Loz1093 · 04/01/2025 21:09

I can't lie, from about 16 weeks onwards I was in agony with my hips with first pregnancy. Second was about 20 weeks onwards and was in fact referred to for physio. I found walking/standing up for any longer periods difficult. But everyone is different 🥰
We have since changed our mattress and my sleep, although currently not pregnant is much better haha!

I also had extra folic acid from my GP 5mg I think it was. All the gestational diabetes were fine too! And yes I took aspirin throughout and was advised to stop at 36 weeks x

Applecrumble9 · 04/01/2025 22:09

Thank you so much x I'll book in with doctor this week and see how I go from there I've only been taking standard dose Folic acid for now hopefully that will be OK x

I would try both together - carry on with your general lifestyle changes and weightloss journey but also stop any contraception and try to have regular sex throughout the month.

See how that goes for 6 months or so then go from there.
