BFP - now what?

Hello!

So I got my BFP yesterday and I am over the moon, also a little apprehensive due to a chemical earlier in the year, but I just wonder what I am actually meant to do next?!

I am v v early, approx 3 weeks & 4 days.

Do you ladies keep testing daily? I am torn, I would like to due to the chemical but I’m also wondering if it just adds extra anxiety. I imagine there’s women who get one positive test and that’s that they accept they are pregnant and move on - I’m trying to be one of those women but it’s hard!

I want to book an early scan - approx 7/8 weeks - should I do that now? Is that silly being so early? Should I maybe keep testing til 5/6 weeks then book in when I am defo sure?

Do I phone GP and let them know or is it still too early?

I am so so excited and just want to be able to feel confident about being pregnant but I am worried I am being a bit silly given it’s only 3 weeks.

@elsa15 firstly congratulations!! I totally understand your mixed feelings given your chemical - I've had a few myself so know how they mess with you. I too wish I was one of those women who could take 1 test and believe they are 100% pregnant whatever happens! If you can resist testing every day I would - I've been there myself and it drove me mad. If it would give you reassurance I would maybe take another test in a week after you've actually missed your period and then consider booking an early scan. But it's entirely up to you what you do and what feels right 🥰 given my previous chemicals (I've had 2 recently and 2 prior to my pregnancy with my DS who's now 3) I'd probably wait until getting to 5 weeks to book the scan as then that's out of chemical territory but that's just me. Whatever you do, I pray this is your sticky bean 🥰

Congratulations! I am one of those who once I've got a positive I just leave it at that, I like having a digital so it's with the words and I know then the hCG levels are high enough to pick up on a digital, I usually do this after I've missed my period.

Then about 4 weeks I self referred to my midwife - it should say on your local hospital trust site what to do, it's rare you need to inform your GP these days.

I had an early scan at 7 weeks - I definitely wouldn't do it any earlier than this as not seeing anything can be more anxiety inducing but I was dated 6w 5d and there was a little flickering heartbeat. If you book too early some don't refund you if you have a miscarriage.

My midwife appointment is 8/9 weeks and then they'll organise the first scan somewhere between 11-14 weeks.

Now I would.. Make sure you're taking folic acid and vitamin D, read up on what they suggest you do / don't eat and drink now you're pregnant, book in for a free flu jab.

Once you're a few days past your period being due I'd refer yourself to local midwife
