Shortest IVF wait times on NHS: Guy's, Guy's and St Thomas or King's?

Hi everyone,

We were referred by my GP to a hospital for fertility treatment/IVF but my GP gave us the option of the above hospitals. We would ideally like to go where the waitlist is the shortest for NHS patients, but I can't find a good overview of that online. Does anyone have any advice on which clinic to choose? After some reading on mumsnet I'm leaning towards Guy's but not sure.

We've been trying to convince for a year now and my partner has low morphology.Any help/ advice would be really appreciated. Thank you!

I can't help with the answer sorry but are you able to ring the departments or secretary for each hospital and ask the question. My GP surgery often finds out how long the waiting lists are for patients by contact the department directly

Guys & St Thomas' are the same. All fertility treatments under St Thomas' are done at Guys. You then move to maternity care at St Thomas'. I had my fertility treatment there in 2020 so can't help on waiting lists but it was a very good clinic (I gave birth at St Georges as we had moved by then). In 2020, Guys wouldn't tell me where I was on the waiting list - not sure if their policy has changed but no harm in asking.

I'd go wherever it is most convenient - you will have lots of appointments at certain points of treatment and I found doing lots of travelling quite stressful on top of everything else, at a time when you need very low stress!

Thank you both! Those are helpful considerations. We chose guys & thomas in the end and now have our first appointment in March, which seems super far away... Though from what we read it should be faster once we're in the system. 🤞

Hey @TTCsince2024 I know it’s been a while now but how’s it going ? What was the process of waiting like ? After your first consultation how long before you were approved for funding ?

TTCsince2024 · 02/04/2025 18:43

Hi :) it's going ok, actually we couldn't wait til March so we actually booked a private appointment in January. The Dr we met then sent our file to our ICB for approval, which took 2-3 weeks to get. Once that was approved (early Feb) they booked me in to start my treatment and we got booked in for April. However I'm traveling for a friend's wedding during the time of my period (bad timing!), so we had to postpone the treatment to May. So all in all it seems to have gone relatively quickly even if I haven't gotten started just yet.

Ahhh I see. 3 weeks in after my initial consultation with Guys just received a questionnaire to fill in this morning to apply for funding and see if we’re eligible so still a long way away lol.

Ah ok, crossing fingers!! Hopefully it'll go quickly.
