Just looking for some advice please.

I am 37 and DP is 45. I'm having some signs of the beginning of peri like more sweats in lead up to period, joint pains, more dryness, which is worrying in terms of TTC. I am prone to UTIs and the fear of them plus DP working long shifts and teenagers and MIL in the house, mean we can't dtd regularly, so trying to time things is probably important, especially given our ages. I can't have sex more than once in a week or I seem to get a UTI, and we need to time it for ovulation, and when neither of us are working, and no teens or MIL is around, which is difficult !!

I've tried OPKs but although line darkens, I never seem to get a darker line than control ConfusedConfused. Even when doing tests twice a day.

I think I am ovulating though, because on day 13/14 I get definite egg white mucus, more interested, higher body temp, and stabbing pains on one side or the other. Usually peaking in the evening on day 14. Then gone 24-48 hours later.

Some months I am not getting my period until CD day 32 though, although I get cramping and PMS for days before. This would mean an 18 day luteal(??) phase I think. Is this too long? Does anyone have any idea when I should be trying to aim for?

thanks xx

Also I should add, I was diagnosed with PCOS by blood tests in my early 20s, and had some very erratic and long cycles along with hair loss and facial hair, even though I managed to conceive and have two DC, born when I was 18 and 21.

During my 30s and after eating better, my cycles are not as long, but maybe I still have issues.

You don’t have to get a line darker than the control. The instructions on all the opks I’ve had say you’re looking for a line AS dark or darker than the control line so both are fine. I usually do wondfo opks and get a line darker than the control but this month I didn’t and they only went as dark as the control but I’ve also used the clear blue ovulation digital and they confirmed the surge with the static smiley face so I wouldn’t worry too much about that - as long as the line is the same colour as the control line x

@Yellowdaff25 Thanks, I have only used the Wondfo from amazon so far, and sorry if I was confusing it in my OP, the line never gets AS dark as the control, even when I test twice a day, it does get darker though, but not so far as dark as control. I will try the clear blue ones I think, thanks xx

If you have the funds or you are lucky enough to have private healthcare that covers it then a fertility MOT may help you understand your fertility levels (and your partner).

Otherwise at home insemination and a fertilily cup may help avoid the timing and UTI issue? Preseed lube may also help

Good luck!

I have no explanation for you but I am 36 TTC and going through something similar:
OPKs positive at day 9/10 so I think I would have ovulated around day 12 I'm currently CD32 and waiting for period (tested yesterday an BFN).

I conceived this cycle and my OPKs never even got as dark as the control line, however they did have a noticeable rise from 0.1 to 0.65, a rise is a rise! Some people just have lower baseline levels of LH. I’d take the EWCM as a good sign and rely on that.
