TW: mention of miscarriage- faint positive after loss?? help

Hi guys - I was wondering if anyone had been through something similar.

back story: I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks (or so that was what I thought I was but by the time I had the scan to confirm the baby had already passed so I have no idea as to when the baby stopped) it’s been 3 weeks and I was told to do a test by midwife’s and did and was stark white negative, I did one today at 3 weeks and 2 days post miscarriage and was a faint positive (was an afternoon wee too) just wondering if this is from the old pregnancy? Has anyone had anything similar? thank you for taking the time to read this post ❤️

firstly I’m so sorry for you loss
have they done any testing? I know a molar or partial molar can cause problems further down the line with tests becoming positive again, but hopefully that can be ruled out for you!

hey, no it was a incomplete miscarriage so I just passed the remaining at home and was told to test at 3 weeks and that’s literally all!

I'm so sorry for your loss and hope you're doing ok.
Is there any possibility you could be pregnant again?
If not, they would expect your tests to be negative 2-3 weeks after a miscarriage. You should contact your hospital for follow ups as there could be some remaining tissue still causing the positive test.
Above poster is right about molar/partial molar. I had one before and tested positive for 3 months while undergoing treatment. It is rare, but needs specialist follow up. Less likely to be this but you do need to be followed up.

thank you so much for your comment. I didn’t think it was common or very rare to get pregnant straight after a miscarriage without having a period? have had unprotected since the miscarriage but didn’t think it would happen as I have no idea when ovulation etc?

thank you though about the molar information, I wouldn’t of thought of it. I think I’ll test again tomorrow morning and see the result and give the hospital a call and see what they say. like I said before I haven’t been checked since I had the 1 scan to confirm it was a loss so that could be a possibility. thanks again

I got pregnant straight after a miscarriage (with no period after the miscarriage) last year, albeit I was actively trying due to previous losses so was using OPKs to track when I ovulated, which was about 2 weeks after my bleeding from the miscarriage stopped. Baby is now 6 months old so it is possible and I wouldn't rule it out OP. Like PP have said, molars can require specialist treatment so you should seek advice either way. Hope it works out for you and so sorry for your loss ❤️

It took 8 weeks for my pregnancy tests to turn negative after my loss at 9 weeks. It wasn't a molar pregnancy, sometimes even HCG is just very slow to reduce.

It could also be a new pregnancy if you've had unprotected sex since the miscarriage. I'd wait a couple of days and test again to see if the line darkens. If any pain or anything unusual, I'd call EPU back. Sorry for your loss x

kdmummyx · 21/11/2024 11:15

This was my test this morning - I can’t tell if it’s darker then the one I took yesterday or not but I’m just going to keep testing to see if the line gets darker or eventually disappears! Thanks everyone

Sorry for you loss.

I had this exact thing happen. I didn’t get a negative as I wasn’t told to keep testing but I got a positive the month after my MC. I ended up being seen by the early pregnancy unit so they could monitor my bloods and found my levels were dropping very slowly then rising. I ended up needing scans to ensure there was nothing left behind etc. mine was put down to a pregnancy of unknown location. I believe it was a new pregnancy as when I started bleeding again the pain and bleeding was a lot worse than the original mc. I would contact your EPU and explain the situation to them.

Thank you for sharing - can I please ask what the outcome was for you?

sorry for your loss too❤️

My levels did slowly drop then I had an awful bleed far more painful than the original mc. I believe it was a new pregnancy and that I mc again but we will never know 🤷🏻‍♀️
EPU asked me to test 2 weeks after the bleed and it was negative again

Thank you for sharing - I’m so sorry that you had to through that again. I did a test this afternoon and it looks pretty negative to me so I think my levels are dropping for sure!
