Ovulation help - confused newbie

Hi
Can anyone help me out a bit. My partner and I are discussing having a child. I’m on no birth control, we use condoms. I have no idea if I am fertile (38, never had a pregnancy or missed period, occasionally late) so I’ve bought some ovulation strips. Based on the instructions in them, I’ve tested during 2 cycles when it suggests and I’m getting negative results, but I do get the egg white mucus described during ovulation (and during this I test negative for ovulating)

Do I need to test every day to see if I fall outside the recommended window? Do I need better tests? or am I likely not ovulating ?

thanks!

You don’t say which ovulation tests you bought; I’d recommend the easy @ home ones and use the PreMom app alongside to help work out when they’re positive/negative/getting stronger.

Try and test every day from around day 8ish of your cycle, at the same time of day where you can, and when the lines start getting darker, do two a day as your peak can be very hard to pinpoint! After your peak you can stop testing until you get your period, or continue testing once a day for nosiness purposes (which is what I did!)

It’s worth noting that even if you have a positive LH test, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve ovulated, it just means your body tried to.

You might need to keep this up for a few months before you get the hang of it/a proper insight, but it should help! Good luck!

That surge can happen pretty quickly. I posted a thread earlier this year showing how fast it can be. All my tests were faint and negative at 8am, stronger by 09:45, peaked at 10:40 and were totally negative again by 11:45!

I also ovulated super early once, and I've ovulated two days later than usual this cycle. It was my second cycle after losing my son at 19 weeks, so there may be a reason for that.

Based on this, I test from day 8 to 20 (I've ovulated on day 9 before and this month I ovulated on day 18). I also test multiple times a day and once I see a rise I test every hour. Three times a day should be okay for now until you build up a picture of when you seem to ovulated. Good luck.

Ooh, that’s super helpful thanks!
