Hi,

Ive been ttc baby no2 for a year now (34 with one child already and PCOS but regular periods) I recently had my progesterone and thyroid checked and all came back normal. Is that all the NHS will offer me? Does it vary upon area? I was hoping for a scan (never been offered this and PCOS was only diagnosed with blood test 6 years ago. I’ve always been a bit skeptical of the diagnosis as have no ‘symptoms’ of PCOS) and tests for my partner but this was never mentioned.

I’d be prepared to go private for these things for peace of mind. Can anyone who has done this advise on there experience and what sort of prices this involved?

thanks!

My progesterone came back low, they repeated it and it was borderline. I think your partner would be able to get a semen analysis if they went to their own GP but it did seem like there was a bit of a wait.

I was put forward for a referral via the NHS 6 months ago but not heard anything so went privately for a fertility assessment last month.

Most fertility clinics seem to offer this - like an MOT. It included a semen analysis, blood tests and a scan and then a follow up with a consultant.

It was sort of reassuring in that they found no reason we wouldn't get pregnant naturally but also frustrating in the sense that there was nothing different we could do!

My friend had a different experience as her partner turned out to have low sperm motility so they then knew it didn't really matter how long they tried but were great candidates for IVF
