Rubella result equivocal?

I had blood tests done at the GP surgery due to problems with my menstrual cycle and as part of that the GP also asked for a rubella test as we're wanting to TTC. It came back as equivocal, twice. I've had the MMR jab done once as a child and once as an adult a good few years ago now. My GP record has been updated to say they've referred it to the fertility clinic to see if I need another MMR jab. Has anyone had this? Did they give you another jab? I appreciate potentially not having rubella immunity is really bad in pregnancy but is the vaccine likely to work anyway if it didn't work the last 2 times?

Rubella is extremely dangerous to unborn babies, so it makes sense to do everything you can to try to prevent yourself from catching it. It's more about "why would you not try to boost your immunity?" than wether or not it might work for you. Just get the jab. For your peace of mind that you've done your best, and to satisfy the doctors that they've also done their best.

Yes that makes sense. Tbf my main question was whether or not others have found GP have suggested the jab after an equivocal result. They're currently querying it so I don't yet know if I'll be able to get the jab on the NHS.

I had the exact same OP. Also a vaccine as a child and an adult. I was having the titre level done for work, but was also planning to TTC. I too was surprised to have an equivocal result after 2 vaccines! I wasn't pregnant at the time, and was given a 3rd MMR vaccine by the GP.
I've also had Hep B vaccines for work, and my levels have always been excellent. I'm unsure if the MMR wanes over time, but vaguely think I had another titre level for MMR a few years after that 3rd vaccine- and my levels were still fine.

MMR is a live vaccine though, and not usually recommended in pregnancy. They might not give it you till after birth.

If you’re not yet pregnant it’s worth trying again, though obviously with advice about how long after the vaccination before ttc. If it’s days you could do it? Of it’s months then I guess not.

it’s possible any immunity from a childhood vaccination has worn of, so possibly only one which hasn’t worked?

im surprised they tested you though as the nhs don’t routinely test pregnant women anymore like they used to.

Apologies OP, I misread that you were already pregnant! 😬
If you aren't then yes, like myself, you should be able to have a 3rd MMR.

That's good to hear the 3rd has worked for some. I believe it's 4 weeks after the vaccine we'd be able to start trying. So in the grand scheme of things absolutely worth it given it's only 1 cycle really.

Yes I was surprised she tested me as well. I think she just thought as she was sending me for bloods anyway she'd add it in.

Just to give an update in case anyone else is in a similar boat. The GP surgery have now asked me to book in for the MMR jab and said 4 weeks after the jab we'll be able to start trying.

Thanks for the update OP. Best of luck with TTC.

As a side note, when I lived abroad, my DH's vaccine history was also checked. I think MMR but also whooping cough. In the UK, they don't! It might be something to check, so your partner doesn't catch and pass on any of those illnesses too.
