Ultra high AMH indicating PCOS and ovulation

Hi all, I wondered if anyone has any personal experience/ knowledge regarding ultra high AMH.

I’ve had some blood tests via Herility which tested for 10 key things, including AMH. My AMH was 94.75. Normal range is 1.29 - 40.56. The report says polycystic ovaries is a likely diagnosis, based on this result and some of the answers given in my survey (acne, facial hair, thinning hair) They are suggesting a pelvic scan to confirm this. This all makes sense and I have previously wondered if I do have PCOS, due to my symptoms, however what I am the most concerned about is what this means for fertility and specifically whether I am likely to not be ovulating due to the high AMH indicator.

My cycles do fluctuate in length but are generally between 25-30 days. My FSH, LH , OEST and PROL results were all within normal range. The report suggests that these all relate to ovulation, but i am wondering if a high AMH result alone is enough to prevent regular ovulation?

Hi @Victoriasponge12
did you get the tests as you are struggling to conceive, or more just for information?
I commented on a similar thread a few months back with my experience so hopefully it’s helpful to you too.
I took the Hertility tests in early 2021 a year before I planned to ttc. My AMH was 114! Which really worried me and so I did privately arrange a follow up scan. All other results were in the normal range. I knew however PCOS was quite unlikely as I had many tests and ultimately a laparoscopy in 2019 that diagnosed mild to moderate endometriosis (though high AMH is not related to this). I also had relatively regular cycles that were 25-32 days in length.
Follow up scan the consultant was a bit cross that I’d been made to feel like I needed to worry so much. Definitely didn’t have PCOS, just a very high egg reserve (they did point out though that this doesn’t necessarily mean quality eggs). I started ttc a year later and fell pregnant first time, which ended in a mmc but immediately fell pregnant again and my son is 19 months old.
By all means arrange the scan if it would give you some reassurance, but just my experience that it didn’t mean PCOS, or struggles to conceive.
Best of luck

Hi @Cdoc thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I’m really pleased to hear that ttc worked for you.
I saw my GP today and she said very similar to what you were told at the private scan. She looked at my full results and said that the things they use to diagnose PCOS on the NHS were all ok, and so if I’d had bloods done through them I definitely would not have been given a PCOS diagnosis.

The reason for doing the Herility test is that me and DP have been ttc for almost a year. The GP has booked me in for day 21 progesterone test to confirm ovulation. My DP is also waiting for tests back, so depending on the results of all of these I may or may not book a private scan. But I’m certainly a lot less anxious now than a few days ago!
