Clearblue Advanced Ovulation - Confused

Hiya,
Hopefully this will make sense to someone, I’m after some advice. I came off the pill at the end of July to TTC baby no2, I didn’t really have any symptoms of ovulation and then was diagnosed with an iron deficiency and have been put on tablets to supplement this. I bought 2 x clear blue advanced ovulation kits just to see if it did pick up potential ovulation to see if the iron was stopping it at all. Anyway, I tested shortly after AF stopped on one of the kits, a couple of days later I got a flashing smiley, tested a few more times that day (online says to test more frequently when you see high fertility) and for a solid smiley by the evening. Thought that was strange so decided to test with the other kit, I knew this would be blank to start with as it needs to baseline which it was but then had a day of blank and then that one started flashing smileys too. I then waited for the solid smiley to go off (locks out the test reader for 48 hours) tested yesterday to baseline again which it did but now both tests are giving me flashing smileys. I’m so confused, has anyone had this before / can someone make sense of it?! Thanks!!

Hello

Not sure I have an answer but didn't want to leave you without a reply.

The first kit sounds like you ovulated a bit earlier than expected? A friend of mine said she discovered she was ovulating around CD5 which is early so not impossible. It's an indication of the peak so if ovulation happens 12-36 hours later might not be as early as we think

I don't know if the second kit can help you here. It would have had to have been at the same time, same urine etc so the kit here maybe have hust added more confusion. I really sympathise with "wasting" a month but best to proceed as if the first kit was right and then test again next month to spot a pattern.

Sorry there's no magical answer.

Thank you for the reply! Agreed about the earlier ovulation, just confused as to why both readers would be back to flashing smileys today but time will tell I’m sure.

I've not got any advice on why this happened but I use these same tests so maybe can help on how to use them. They recommend doing the first morning urine and then testing once a day - unlike an Lh test where you might test later on that same day

With these tests you’re not supposed to test more than once a day otherwise it won’t pick up the surge. Every time you test you set a new baseline. The hormones fluctuate at different times of the day so you have to test at the same time every day. If you’re doing it twice a day you’ll get stuck with flashing smileys. I can’t remember the exact science of it but it happened to me one month when I was testing numerous times a day and I rang the helpline on the box and the woman explained it to me. They do work- I’ve got pregnant many times using them ( 6 miscarriages and 2 babies) by just having sex on the day of the solid smiley

Thank you! I went off this guidance on their website:

High Fertility - a flashing smiley face. Continue to test daily to find your LH surge. - After your first day of High Fertility is displayed you can test more than once a day if you would like to but avoid excess fluid intake before testing.

Hopefully the static smiley was right, I used them years ago for ttc my son but did test multiple times a day then with a flashing smiely then too.
