Private HyCoSy - can I go back to NHS for treatment?

Hello
I wondered if anyone can help me! I’ve been TTC number 1 for nearly a year now with no success. I’ve had bloods at the GP, and a pelvic ultrasound in April (for something else) and all is normal. The next step is referral to the fertility clinic at the hospital, but the GP says she can’t do that until my husband has had sperm analysis. The problem is, the first Available appt is in February (!), and then they will refer me then, with likely even longer waiting times. Therefore I was wondering if I paid for some private investigations such as HyCoSy (which the GP has said is next), plus sperm Analysis for hubby, can I then go back to the NHS for any treatment for this I might need, or for the fertility treatment/insemination/ivf etc? Has anyone paid for testing privately to shorten waiting times but then been able to get back into the nhs system via the GP? My mental health is really suffering at the moment with all the bfns and the thought of waiting until potentially next summer to even have a consultation when I’ll have turned 36 is filling me with horror. 😓

many thanks!

Hello,
We are based in the midlands but private we paid for sperm tests and a lot of other blood tests for me including some scans.
The NHS accepted and even asked for these results (Hubbie never completed a sperm test for NHS) it did not impact our journey to IVF. However I did have my hycosy via the NHS.

Hey @PoppyPeaches we are based in north east London and paid for some tests for both of us privately because of the huge wait times (specifically for semen analysis), I also had hycosy privately and our NHS fertility clinic accepted everything without problem, hope this helps!

Hi @jenkh91 and @Hatchyhatch ! Thankyou so much for your replies, that makes me feel so much better. I rang the doctors today and they’ve said I need to go in for another appt, but they only do on the day ones at my surgery, so will try and get one on Friday when I’m off work. We were also looking on the sperm analysis booking page this evening, and they have a random appt now for this wednesday, a cancellation I guess, and then the next one is February! Sadly he can’t do this wed, but at least that gives me a bit of hope that we might be able to get a cancellation if we keep checking. Failing that I think we’re going to pay for it +/- a hycosy depending on the results!
thanks so much for your replies, it’s much appreciated 😃 xx
