Proov PDG test

Hello,

I'm 18 months into unsuccessfully TTC second baby. I've had all the blood tests I can have via GP and privately apart from progesterone. My 7dpo falls on a Sunday this week so I was wondering about trying the Proov progesterone test as i obviously can't have bloods at GP at weekend. Has anyone tried one and are they reliable? They're £25 a try so be good to hear of other people's experiences!

Thank you 😊

I have had progesterone through my GP a few times and my personal experience is that it's not that helpful unless it's in combination with other things. I was convinced mine was too low, but I saw a Consultant last week who said it doesn't work like that, if it's elevated, you ovulated and because it's a bell curve without testing every day you wouldn't learn very much. So if you do it to try and rule in or out that you are ovulating this month it doesn't help that much.

I had placed so much hope on it telling me something about why it was taking so long but sadly it didn't. The two months I did get pregnant it was still fairly low and yet those months were both fine.

Also I was told to do it 7 days before my period was due as the day 21 assumes a 28 day cycle.

What did help was a scan - they found a polyp which may be impacting my fertility but also it was reassuring. I went privately for this - and totally appreciate that's a luxury but had been waiting 6 months for an NHS referral which still hasn't come.

Only my personal experience, hopefully others can add theirs!

I found Proov useful. You do a baseline test shortly after your period, then you test about four days in a row when it should be at its highest. I found the instructions very clear and the app also very good, plus customer services were very useful when I had to contact them as I was struggling to scan one of my results in.

This is actually enormously helpful - thanks so much. I've had my LH, FSH and oestradiol checked through GP. I also had a scan on NHS which found nothing wrong (though aware it may have been less detailed than a private one). My AMH is low (2.6pmo/l and I'm 37). We have known MFI issues which we're working on addressing. I guess I thought progesterone was the next logical thing to check. I did manage to get the blood test form from my GP but there aren't actually any appointments available when I'm 7/8dpo so I can't even check this cycle anyway. I'll be going to see a gynaecologist/fertility consultant privately in December but been feeling so low I've been thinking of what other things we could try in the interim. It's really useful to know that the results should be taken with a pinch of salt. I think if I can't get an appointment for this cycle I'll try again in November but will bear in mind what you said. Thanks again 😊

Thanks so much for sharing. It's something to bear in mind. I didn't know you had to do the baseline tests so I wouldn't be able to do this cycle anyway.

Proov tests indicated I hadn't ovulated but a scan showed I had and I fell pregnant the next cycle.

Consider one of the blood tests you can order online from Superdrug etc. Or opting for a mid luteal scan straight away, which will give a lot of information about your uterus, lining thickness and ovaries, as well as indicating definitively if you've ovulated.

Are you able to ask for a fertility referral in light of the 18 months TTC?

Hello! Thanks so much for your reply. We already have one naturally conceived child so don't qualify for funded IVF sadly. However I've had a scan on NHS (was all normal). I also have low AMH. 😢 My partner's semen analysis did show some issues we're working on. We have an andrology/gynaecology appointment in December (privately obviously) so hoping to get some answers finally. Unfortunately there are no appointments via my GP for when I'm 7/8dpo this cycle for a progesterone blood test so I guess I'll have to wait until the next cycle for that. It was just something I thought was worth checking really. I do temp and BBT seems to confirm ovulation but I know that's not a guarantee.
