Ovulation After Coming Off Pill

I’ve recently come off the combined pill and have started ovulation testing as I’m aware my cycles are likely to be all over the place. Negative ovulation tests so far.

For anyone who’s been on the combined pill:
How long did it take for you to ovulate?
How long did it take for you to get your first period?

Thanks! ☺️

@BrightLilacCat and @maple1234 how are you both doing? I'm on cycle day 33 and no sign of AF or a BFP so don't think I've actually ovulated yet, looks like it's going to be another long cycle! Looking at my previous cycle on premom it was 64 days!! I think I will give my body until the new year to sort itself out if not go to the doctors as it should have been 6months at that point being off the pill.

I stopped taking the pill end of June 2022. My first cycle off the pill was bang on 28 days and I ovulated the following month in August. It has been consistently between 25-29 days since then (with the exception of one very stressful month where my cycle was 21 days!)

BrightLilacCat · 19/11/2024 13:23

@CandH35 sorry to hear you’re still struggling. 😢
I’m back on cycle day 8 of month 2 of TTC and started ovulation testing again with very low numbers. My first real period off the pill was very light so I wouldn’t say it’s back to normal yet.

Hey! Sounds like we're in exactly rhe same boat. I'm cycle day 33 and had no signs of either. My LH tests have all been between 0-0.2 with no pattern from day 9. My previous cycles have been 51 and 44 days. I'm also going to go to the doctors after Christmas if I don't get a positive LH test this month and cycles are still irregular. Let me know how it goes!

@CandH35 have you thought about taking inositol? I have read it's mainly used for regulating regular cycles with PCOS but can be helpful without it. I'm not sure whether to start taking it before seeing GP but I'm so inpatient to start trying 🫣

I take proceive plus which does contain inositol, not sure what the dosage compares to if you just took it as a single supplement. I don't think there are any adverse affects of taking it if you don't have pcos so no harm in trying, especially if it takes a couple of months to take affect like a lot of supplements. At least then if you do go to a gp in January you can say you've already tried it. Are you taking any supplements at moment?

Good idea. The only thing I guess is if my cycles suddenly get regular whether that has happened naturally or due to the inositol. At the moment I only take multivitamin, iron and folic acid.

Finally getting an LH peak today at CD38!! So relieved that I could be ovulating that I could cry 🥲 I was just about to stop testing. Gonna keep testing to see exactly when my peak is.

That's great news!! I hope it's finally come at a good time for dtd haha. I'm CD 39 and not feeling any signs of ovulation, my boobs really hurt last time but maybe it was more intense being my first real cycle after the pill. You've inspired me to take an ovulation test to check tomorrow to see where I'm at. However my partner is away for the next week so hoping it won't start rising while he's away.

Did you feel any signs in the lead up to the rise?

Thank you! We did last night luckily so time to keep cracking on 🤣 I have been having stomach cramps the past few days, but especially last night as it was keeping me awake. That's the one thing I have noticed!

Hey @maple1234!! Feel like I've given up a bit. Finally came on my period over Christmas which meant my cycle was about 64 days!! I did speak to a doctor and had bloods done. My hormone levels were high but it turns out I was possibly ovulating around that time so couldn't really tell much. I was meant to have bloods redone on the 3-5 day of my cycle but that fell over Xmas so couldn't go.

I've got a pelvic ultrasound booked for mid February so it will be interesting to see if that shows anything!

According to premom I should be in my fertile window at the moment but just going with the flow until I've had more tests done 😁. I'm expecting another 60+ day cycle 😅

How are you feeling about everything?

It's so difficult isn't it, hard not to get fed up with it. Fingers crossed for your ultrasound. Keep us updated! 🤞🏽

My previous cycles have been 51,43,48 days. Last month I did LH tests from day 18 and didn't get a peak until day 38, so this month I thought I'd give myself a break and start testing on dec 27 (day 23). I thought I'd have loads of time but I'm not sure if I'd missed it from testing 0.4 that day (usually 0.1-0.2)! I'm going to keep testing until I get my period, currently on day 33. If I have missed it it's positive that my cycle is shorter but annoying we've missed a chance this month. We didn't BD at all over when it could have been as I had horrible cold going around. Hopefully I'll know by the end of the week by either getting my period or a peak LH!

Hoping 2025 is a lucky year for us ✨

Hello everyone, grateful this thread got bumped up. I came off the pill about a month and a half ago. Had my AF four weeks later so I thought all was good. Bought some OPK’s to double check when I ovulate (I had two different apps telling me two different things) and my numbers have just been really low for the last couple of days 😔 According to the apps I should be ovulating between the 7-11. Just seems so unlikely and my low numbers are substantially lower than what other people call low on this forum :(

Are you using Premom to track them? I usually have to scan the low ones a few times before they log as anything other than 0.

I didn't track ovulation until a few months after I came off the pill so I don't know how long it took me to ovulate after coming off (hopefully I am). I would continue to test as last month mine was later than expected, I wouldn't rely on apps. My cycles have really fluctuated since coming off 6 months ago

Hey, yes I am. I think they’re scanning ok as they’re not coming up as 0, they’re just coming up as pretty low.

Out of interest what makes you think you didn’t ovulate after stopping the pill straight away? Did you not have a bleed after you stopped? I bled bang on schedule so I assumed that was my AF. Definitely seemed too regular and heavy not to be a withdrawal.

Ah I see, some of mine last month were below 0.1.

I bled after 51 days so I should have but I just didn't check with OKPs.

Ahh that's annoying that you might have missed it. I guess like you say if Af comes soon at least you know you've missed it and it's a shorter cycle. But if not it means another long unpredictable cycle, but still a chance. Not sure which one sounds better haha. Keep me posted.

Fingers crossed you won't have to go through too many more cycles before you're positive. It's the not knowing and lack of control which is the most frustrating!!

I'll let you know how the ultrasound goes. I'm quietly hoping this could be a normal length cycle and maybe my bodies adjusting but we'll see.

Hey!! Sorry to hear your having problems with the opks. I know how frustrating it can be when you see everyone else's numbers and yours are so low. It's good sign that you've already had a period since coming off the pill. Some people have a really rapid rise so you might be someone who only has one really high day. When I finally did get a positive ovulation test I think I went from 0.9 right back down to 0.05 in less than a day. Are you tracking ewcm as well? That might be helpful to know when you're approaching a peak. My boobs also started to feel tender.

Thank you so much for your kind words! It’s tough when it feels like nobody else can relate to what you’re going through but I’m glad to be able to share how I’m feeling on here!

I’m not currently testing ewcm but might start. I’ll also keep testing using okp’s until I’m 100% out of that ovulation window. Thank you :)

I've also known a few friends who didn't get a positive opk after coming off the pill for a few cycles but still got pregnant, so maybe for some people their baseline LH levels are lower after coming off the pill so the rise won't look as high as others 😁

Thank you so much! That’s so reassuring to hear! I think because it’s my first time it’s so easy to fall into the spiral and believing everything is wrong even when there’s no proof of that 😅

Although it’s annoying that I might not be able to pinpoint exactly when I ovulate, my cycles are always pretty regular so I’ll concentrate on monitoring the ewcm signs then just try to do the deed around then.
