Ibuprofen in the 2ww? Worried

Massive dental pain yesterday, wisdom tooth agony. Paracetamol every 4 hrs but last night it didn’t touch the sides so I had to take 2 ibuprofen.

i was 2dpo… could it prevent implantation or mess anything up?

i also had to have a dental x ray today, but I read that it’s targeted radiation so it’s ok

Don’t worry

2dpo is way too early for it to impact anything, don't worry.

Pain came back so I took aspirin thinking that would be better, but I’ve just read that can cause birth defects. I took some early hours this morning and day 3 and 4 dpo thinking it would be better but now super worried

Take a deep breath. You're not even pregnant (yet). If your anxiety is this high now it'll be horrific in pregnancy.
Lots of women take low level aspirin when TTC or in early pregnancy. At this stage there's so little you can do to actually cause anything to happen or not happen.

you’re right, it doesn’t help that I’m in absolute agony so can’t really think straight

Yeah the pain won't be helping at all, tooth pain really, really sucks. Sending hugs and I hope it clears up soon. You can also try either a heat or cold pack (depending on the reason for the pain) which can help just take the edge off x

Please don't worry. I took ibuprofen, paracetamol and nefopam during what would have been my TWW (although we weren't actually trying / waiting at that time) because I'd had an operation. Found out 12 days after the op that I was pregnant - I'm 22 weeks now and all is well (touch wood). Also many pregnant women are prescribed aspirin throughout pregnancy (including myself) because there's strong evidence that it supports placental development so again please don't worry about that either! Good luck xx

Many medications are linked to an increased risk of neural tube defects in babies during the early gestational period. This is why women are advised not to take anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen. However, recent evidence has shown us that Aspirin can be used in women at high risk of pre-eclampsia and BP problems (risk factors being - First Baby - BMI - Age - Race etc.) I took Aspirin from 8 weeks until 36 weeks, and I was absolutely fine. I also took Diclofenac (a stronger ibuprofen) for a medical condition past 12 weeks. If you're in pain or in a situation you'd normally take ibuprofen for such as dental, joint, back pain (just to name a few) then you can actually take codeine which can be prescribed by a GP. Every medication is never perfectly safe because evidencing and performing research on mothers and their unborn babies is limited to the vast amount of medication that exists, and also because sometimes it's unethical to do so. Please don't worry, a one-off aspirin and ibuprofen is really not going to do much if anything at all. But to help ease any further anxiety, you should speak to a doctor and confirm which medications you can safely take as replacements in case you need them in future. I always reminded myself that there are people who do way worse things during their pregnancy than put their health as a priority. Your health = babies health and a more positive journey.
