Hi guys,

So I have just got a BFP on a digital test!! Absolutely over the moon but with that comes massive anxiety! We are due to fly to Barcelona on the 31st of October and I'm worried flying might cause me to miscarry! Has anyone experienced flying at this time in pregnancy? Am I being completely mad?

Any advice appreciated!

Thank you,

Well I went skiing at 9 weeks pregnant and all was fine. That included flights. I think you'll be fine

MiddleAgedDread · 18/10/2024 18:37

Mad to be worrying about it I think!

My mum was an air hostess who flew regularly with me till she was 7 months. I turned out perfectly Grin My boss flies regularly for work at 12 weeks.

I was on a 12 hour flight when 20weeks pregnant. No complications.

Went travelling round Italy for two weeks this summer at 6-8 weeks pregnant. No major issues, just took lots of naps during the day.

What makes you think you will miscarry?

Pomelojuice · 18/10/2024 19:03

Congratulations! Both of my kids, as it happened, travelled to and from Greece on holiday with me at about 6 weeks gestation. Managed some water sports whilst I was there. The worst thing was the vomiting whilst having to share the plane toilet. Kids are fine (now 1 and 3) - hope you have a nice hol.

I think it’s a valid point! especially if you’re prone to blood clots

But she didn’t say that…

Was 5/6 weeks and did 10 hour flight to Mexico and back no issues. It’s not known to cause an issue unnecessary worrying

I was trying to be helpful 🙄 you were snarky for absolutely no reason.
if a woman is worried and wants support your response with no follow up 🆙 came across as stuck up and snotty

RedBulb · 18/10/2024 20:05

You are absolutely fine to fly.

I found out I was pregnant 5 days before holiday! So was about 4 weeks, no problems at all, except fatigue which was easily managed.

i don’t agree she asked a valid question as flying in early pregnancy isn’t known to cause a miscarriage. You suggested there could be an issue potentially re blood clots, which isn’t helpful in reassuring OP

Brainded · 18/10/2024 20:10

I didn’t ask it in a snotty way @Amityhill it was a genuine, simple question. She didn’t say WHY she thought that. I’m just trying to see her reasoning is all…

WonderingWanda · 18/10/2024 20:14

I don't think that flying is considered a risk in early pregnancy. NHS states that some women prefer not to travel as the risk of miscarriage is higher in the first trimester. They don't mean that flying is the risk they mean that women might not want to be away from home and experience a miscarriage.

I would say, live your life and stop panicking about things that haven't happened yet. I sincerely hope that all goes well with your pregnancy.

I also just found out that we’re expecting on October 14th.. got my first positive digital on the 16th!
I’ve had chemicals before so I completely understand the worry around the unknown when you’re pregnant. We need to be asking questions and that’s what this fourm is for..
I've been cramping etc from before my bfp and it’s caused a lot of worry so we need reassurance sometimes!
go on that flight OP and enjoy yourself 💛
