Mirena coil experiences

I’m looking for experiences with the Mirena coil. I had mine fitted at the beginning of September and since then I have been bleeding for 4 out of 7 weeks. I wondered what experiences others have had with this. The consultant, who fitted the coil, warned me it could take up to six months for everything to settle. Just to manage my expectations, will this be six months of on and off bleeding?! It’s such a faff having constant bleeding. I’m keeping everything crossed that I am one of the lucky ones in that once it settles I will not bleed for five years. Am I kidding myself?

It can be removed if it doesn't suit you.

The on off spotting stopped about 4 months in for me which I think is quite common

I bled for 6 months but after that it was years of bliss.

I bled on and off for about 6 weeks and then just never bled again. I love it.

Was young, pre-kids. Bled for about 4 weeks - bad at the start then wore off.

Then no more periods for the duration.

Got it taken out, became pregnant a bit too quickly - had been told it might take a while for things to settle but it was within 3 months.

I have one for endo - my bleeds in the first few months were maybe 2 weeks long but very very light. I am 11 months in and I only have some spotting for a few days each month now.

I had the Mirena for heavy bleeding. Once it was in, I bled constantly for what felt like years, but was probably less than 3 months. At one point I was seriously regretting it. Then one day, the bleeding just stopped and that was it, no more periods for me!

I had it replaced 2 years ago for a fresh one, and this time there was no bleeding at all. So it is just a one-time faff that I had to go through. Totally worth it for having complete freedom from periods

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond to my post. You have given me the reassurance I needed to keep going and see it out for at least another couple of months. Fingers crossed there will be an end to this annoying bleeding phase!
