Anyone in same boat with possible 'short luteal phase'?

TTC no 2 for 6mths.Fell preg with ds within 2 mths of trying. 34 yrs old.
Not temping but making note of CM. Usually ov CD 16 & cycle normally 26 days (therefore luteal phase of only 10 days - 'normal' is 12/14 days).
Due for progesterone blood test this week to make sure I am actually ovulating & may get referred from there.
Anyone else in similar position or had success TCC despite of this.........?

The progesterone test is usually done on day 21. A value of 30 or over would indicate ovulation.

If your progesterone level is awry then it may be that LH and FSH are out of balance as well. These two hormones are important as they kickstart the ovulation process. LH and FSH are measured earlier in the cycle - around day 3.

I would look into being referred anyway - gynaes like to see women over the age of 35 if they have been ttc for six months or over without success.

I know for a fact my ds was concieved on CD18 as i used OV tests (28 day cycle) this was also confirmed at the dating scan they put me a week back.

I did miss my period but didn't test pos until 4 days late.

Not sure if this is helpful or not.

i had a luteal phase of 10 days but after about three months of taking (a reasonably high dose of)vitamin b6, it stretched to 11 days. i assume it was the b6 that caused this, anyway.

Stripey, I had an LP of 11 days, which jumped to 13 the first month I tried 50mg of B6. Also got rid of the extremely sore/sensitive nipples!

PrePG · 24/04/2008 10:47

My LP is about 10-11 days and got pregnant without a problem. Sadly ended in mc, but at 11 weeks, so had nothing to do with short LP.

Sarah and Stripey I don't think the 50mg of B6 has done anything for me. I've doubled the dose for this month, so we'll see if it helps!

i take kelkin vitamin b complex, it has the highest level of b6 that i could find (in my extensive search of boots) and it also covers the folic acid side of things. and yes, it also seems to have helped with the aching boobs thing...

Great. Thanks for info.
Had read about B6 so may start taking it once I know results from progesterone blood test. Did anyone wait to be referred before B6 recommended or did you just put yourselves on it?
Am convinced prob lies with luteal phase......

I had a 10 day luteal phase..and conceived within 2 months!!

Yes - have a 9-11 day LP and have conceived twice. I did take evening primrose oil for second conception, but this was to increase fertile mucus (it seemed to work, was noticeable pretty immediately), don't know if it increased LP as first month I took it I conceived.

So yes - short-ish LP didn't prevent me conceiving, and meant that I didn't have to wait quite as long to have an idea that my period was late.

Trying for 6 mths for number 2 not too long - lots of my friends have found ttc second took longer (between 3-10 mths), even when their first was conceived in first mth or two. DS was a first month baby; current pregnancy was on 6th try. Hope you catch soon .

(and I was concerned when i noticed it and asked my gynaecologist about it and she said it was unlikely to be a problem)

stripeywoollenhat · 25/04/2008 20:53

i just put myself on it, read that b6 was good for regulating cycle in a general sense. also, after several months of taking it did get pregnant but had an mmc at 10 weeks. whatever the problem was with lo, it wasn't my luteal phase, though, or the pregnancy wouldn't have lasted that long. also, i did ask my doctor about it, and she seemed to think ten days was fine - i think it's generally only considered a problem if it's under ten.
