My GP prescribed metformin for PCOS, maybe contact your GP

Self-medication is very dangerous with this products when you're not a doctor

I doubt that Superdrug will prescribe metformin to you if it's for PCOS, as their website says that it isn't licensed for that purpose.

Try inositol – the NHS consultant I saw says it’s often preferred to metformin for PCOS, and it’s OTC.

You can get it on Amazon and elsewhere, take twice a day with meals. (I take 2 scoops morning and evening, which I think is 2 x 2mg… would need to check. Regulated my periods and got me ovulating).

Drs do – it’s a common treatment

There's quite a growing amount of evidence for myo-innistol. Interestingly alot around egg quality too. Not just PCOS. Doctors aren't always the best to comment ime. I work with a lot of them and despite them sometimes thinking they're god and know best, they don't always.

You're never going to get large scale studies on it because it won't make anyone money as its accessible to anyone. PCOS isnt a huge buzz area in research that many care about. So you're also unlikely to get decent sized charity or NIHR funded studies either. Doesn't mean it doesn't work the ancedotal evidence is huge.

I for one believe I have a child because of it.

It's cheap and accessible. So it's always worth trying.

I started ovulating for the first time in 20 years while taking it – that’s anecdotal (or in my own case, first hand), however it’s an experience echoed by many, many people with PCOS.

It also has zero adverse side effects.

Yep I think it’s important to understand what drives research and publication.

Bad Pharma by the epidemiologist Ben Goldacre is a very interesting read on this topic.
