Just had my Mirena coil removed this morning. We want to start trying for baby No2. I don’t want to start tracking cycles or ovulation or any of that stuff at the moment. DC1 was conceived first try on our honeymoon. When we looked at the due date we worked out baby was conceived either on the wedding night or early honeymoon as we were using condoms up until then. So hoping it won’t be too long ttc again but I know things may be different this time round so would be nice to prepare properly. What things are you doing (besides the obvious lol) to help get pregnant and stay healthy? Are you taking vitamins from now or cutting out alcohol/caffeine? Using any special lubes or products?

I never did anything first time round as I honestly wasn’t expecting to conceive literally straight away so I was drinking every cocktail going at the all Inclusive on my honeymoon 😂 Everything I was reading was implying that trying to get pregnant in my mid-thirties may take some time so it was a real surprise for us and would be nice to be a bit more sensible this time.

What are you all doing/not doing?

Good luck ladies! X

I never used ovulation tests but I did have my periods tracked in an app so had an idea of when my fertile week was from that. Just made sure we had sex in that window at some point. Otherwise, just do nothing and have sex as usual. If you have sex on a fairly regular basis you should hit your fertile window at some point.

Thanks. I am not against tracking my periods. I mean we do have a 2 year old that refuses to sleep in his own room so we may struggle to have sex as much as we did first time round 😂 could be useful to see when the most effective time would be!

Which app did you use?

So for the most relaxed way for me was to track - because I knew then that there were only two days each month where I "needed" to have sex and the rest was fun. For me this was much less stressful than trying to have sex every other day when we were both tired.

Also never done ovulation tests or temping etc, but I do recommend tracking your cycle for an idea of when your fertile time might be. I found I was naturally filled with rage and got bloated/gassy the day before/day that I ovulated... which didn't lend itself to wanting to have sex lol (though I did feel the increased libido of ovulation, just didn't want DH anywhere near it) - which obv meant I didn't conceive. Never would have figured that out without simply tracking my cycle as I never put the two together until I looked back haha. Got pregnant the first month I pushed through and had bloated sex 😑.

I wouldn't give up alcohol/caffeine yet. Can't hurt to try being healthier and start taking a prenatal, though!

Thanks. Yes, this is the thing with us. Before our first child we would be having sex on a daily basis anyway before even trying to conceive, but this time round we have a toddler that refuses bedtimes and is going through terrible twos. We are both very tired and sex is happening maybe once per week so I think we will have to make a conscious effort this time.

I used the clue app to track

Peonies12 · 04/10/2024 17:36

i used Premom app and easy @ home tests. I didn’t find tracking stressful; I found it easier knowing the best days. Only took folic acid; those prenatal vitamins aren’t necessary if you have a good diet. I did reduce alcohol and caffeine.

Lol saaaaaaame! I used the premom app and their LH testing strips. Made it so easy. I tested twice a day so that there was no chance of me missing my LH peak, and once I got a peak I had sex that day and the next day. And forgot about any other day unless we fancied it. Doing it like that I got pregnant on three out of the four cycles we went for.

Definitely folic acid is recommended as helps to prevent spina bifida, I reduced alcohol and the two cycles I conceived I didn't have alcohol for a good month or so before.
