Shared experiences of DPO for BFP

Hello everyone. I’m new to my TTC journey but we have been planning this for some time now so I’ve done some research. From what I understand it seems like you’re likely to test positive around 12-14DPO on early tests if you’ve calculated your ovulation correctly. I’m 13DPO today and still testing negative, I know you’re not out until AF appears but it’s really hard not to be disheartened when you don’t have that BFP by 12DPO. I’m wondering if all the stories I see of people testing positive from 8DPO are reflective of the wider demographic? And if it’s actually completely normal to test negative until you miss AF, as all the apps etc try to tell us? Trying to find hope in that everyone’s body is different ❤️ I’d really appreciate some shared experiences!

With my daughter I tested faintly positive at 9dpo, but some people don't get their positives until much later xx

I got a positive at 12dpo but looking back at the photo I took of the "negative" 10dpo test, I can see a faint line.

I think it depends a lot on the tests. I tested positive on a FRER at 9DPO but completely negative on an easy@home 10miu test. The easy@home tests (cardboard strips) didn't turn noticeably positive for a little while!

10dpo and 12dpo for the 2 pregnancies I tested before AF was late. My first pregnancy I didn't test until a week after AF was due!

This is all really helpful, thanks for sharing. I’ve been using the e@h tests mostly but I also had a negative FRER yesterday at 12DPO.

This is only my second cycle trying, I think I’ll likely hold off with testing on my next one and wait closer to AF time.

It’s weird, I feel like I’ve been living my life in 2 week blocks for the past couple of months 😂 big respect to those who do this for years ttc!

The apps tell you to wait as they work on the latest possible time frame at each stage of the process IE. You log a positive ovulation test Saturday - so if that was Saturday at 11.30pm and you ovulated a full 24 hours later, and that egg fertilised at the last chance a full 24 hours after THAT and then didn't implant until 10 days later, then say it took 3 full days for HCG to rise then you add ALL that up and it would mean you can't hope to get a positive before the following Sunday (15 days past peak OPK).

The above is of course all possible. But realistically, unless every part happens at the latest possible time frame it's unlikely to take 15 days to test positive (which would then be the first day of your missed period). The apps also assume all pregnancy tests are the least sensitive, as even if all the above happened you'd still likely get a positive on 12 DPO with a 10m test, which most internet cheapies are.

I'm not saying this to make you despondent at all, I just have spent a lot of time wondering about the discrepancies between what the apps advise and the reality I see online, and this is what scientifically makes sense to me.

@MocktailMe no it doesn’t make me despondent at all, I appreciate all the feedback - so thank you!

I think I’m still trying to properly learn about my cycle too in terms of tracking, so whilst I think I’m 13DPO I could well be wrong. AF due on Sunday so we’ll see what happens but I’m definitely still feeling positive, and armed with more information, for my next cycle 😊
