Falling pregnant after 12 months ttc

Hi there,

My husband (33) and I (31) have been trying to conceive for a year now without any luck. We’ve been for tests which have come up normal, and docs have advised us to try for another year.

I’m just wondering if anyone has any success stories of getting pregnant naturally after more than a year of trying?
We are debating whether it’s worth keeping trying for a relatively low shot at getting pregnant (we’ve been told around half of those who still haven’t conceived after a year will conceive within the second year) or whether to look into treatment privately.

thanks in advance!

You'll find all sorts of stories, that's obvious. Even if someone tells you they got pregnant naturally after two years or more, that's their personal story, different from yours.
Some couple continue to try naturally, while others seek medical help.
It's up to you and your partner to discuss this with the medical fertility teams.
Having an initial appointment just to discuss the matter does not necessarily mean that you will go ahead with medically assisted procreation.
I wish you luck 🍀 !
TTC journey is very hard sometimes, take care

This month would have been a year of trying for me and my partner (both early 30’s). I got my BFP this morning after absolutely believing AF was coming because i’d gotten so used to it every month.

I have had countless bloods and all are ok, my partner was booked in for a sperm analysis next week!

Sorry to hear that you’re on this journey, I just wanted to give you some hope 💕

Just going to offer some comfort. My partner and I were trying unsuccessfully for 7 years to conceive to the point I was sick with worry.
i then just told myself it wasn’t meant to be and that wasn’t my path in life. Literally fell pregnant within 6 months of that. So I guess I’m just offering some hope for you, obviously I don’t know your health circumstances but my partner has lymphoma and I have PCOS so it is possible even with health complications. I did get ‘fit’ just prior to conceiving and was eating a super healthy diet-again could be coincidental but for the first time in years I was at a healthy weight etc.
But feel the main thing was stopping the worry.
i sincerely hope you also have your happy news soon ❤️

It took us 3 years to conceive our first! She's a healthy beautiful angel and we're nearly 2 years into trying for a second. My egg quality plays a big part in our issues but dp sperm is in perfect condition! It definitely can happen! Xx

Yeah my husband and I started TTC January 2020 and conceived our son in March 2021. We did nothing different but I had given up hope and while we were still trying I was less stressed about it all due to accepting it wasn't going to happen without help. We had booked an appointment with a fertility clinic so it's possible the weight of stress on us dropping had an impact. That or it was just luck! But it's definitely possible especially if your tests haven't shown any obvious problems.

Have you tried using a Fertilily?

JuniperandI · 13/09/2024 20:10

By NHS standard, 'normal' test results often aren't enough to get pregnant and stay pregnant unfortunately.

I'd definitely recommend talking to a fertility specialist and go from there. Good luck!

We weren't in any rush, yes even at age 31, so gave it a couple of years ttc naturally. We had expected it to happen, as you do, so started to worry about and got checked out. Both of us fine fertility wise so gave it another year, no luck. Started off with clomid, no luck, then IVF x3 then gave up. End result, adoption, which we believe what was meant and feel blessed. X

I'd be tempted to keep trying another six months to save the money. At age 30 you have years before fertility is likely to drop off significantly.

But knowledge is power. Get a referral for a fertility specialist straight away and speak to someone about it as soon as you can to get an overall idea of the probability of success with private treatment.

It's also worth asking how much waiting six months or a year to pursue private treatment may or may not affect that. I think time has a large impact on egg quality so better to speak to someone sooner. Saying that, you are still only just turned 30 so have time.

Thanks so much everyone, this is so encouraging and helpful. Thanks for taking the time to post, I really appreciate it. Huge congrats to all of you who have your babies with you now or are expecting them.

i think it feels like time to start exploring at least private additional tests for us now

@Linalou12
We got pregnant with #1 after 19 months of trying, we had just been referred for IVF when we found out.
I guess it depends on your test results

Allswellthatendswelll · 14/09/2024 08:15

First baby 10 months

Currently pregnant with second after 18 months ttc but we did have male factor it turns out so that explains why it took so long. We were told it was very unlikely!

It might happen naturally, my GP said most couples get pregnant within two years and I didn't really believe her but here we are! But I would start having tests as it can be a slow process.
