DTD on Sunday, periods are either 3 weekly or 6/7 weekly so even if I missed one I wouldn't be sure I missed, for weeks.

Would 2/3 weeks be sensible (or sooner, later)? TIA.

I am having irregular cycles since having a couple of miscarriages, so I test once a week. Kind of prep myself it will be negative, and then hope one week I will be pleasantly surprised!

In sexual health they advise to test over 3 weeks after unprotected intercourse, or at the time of a missed period.

The reason they day 3 weeks is that sperm can live for 7 days, and if you ovulated even as late as 7 days after sex you could still have gotten pregnant. And then they add on the other 2 weeks to make sure the result would come up on the test. So by 3 weeks after unprotected sex, iv you were pregnant, the test should pick it up reliably.

If you only test once and test too soon, you may get a false negative.

When cycles are longer, the luteal phase (bit between ovulation abd the hext period) normally stull stays around 14 days, so the ovulation itself is usually later in the cycle, and may have been later than expected. Are you trying to track ovulation at all?

Your periods also sound irregular, have you ever spoken to your GP about getting blood tests and a scan for PCOS? It would be worth finding out why your cycles are irregular as that cam affect fertility and treatment could improve your chances of conception significantly.

Thank you for this. I've had some spotting today!

Not been tracking ovulation, I've got the flo and clue app so have an idea (according to them at least).

I mentioned the irregular cycles at my smear, the nurse wasn't concerned, I'm also a bit older and it could be peri-menopause.

They were always so regular, came off the pill and they weren't so regular. Got pregnant and had DC1 (Nearly 3), they've been very irregular since.

I'll keep all my fingers and toes crossed that it works out for you and you get your BFP.
