Anyone had IVF with Bupa?

Has anyone used Bupa for IVF recently? What was your experience and how long did it take?

We are just starting the process and based in central London. Decided to go private instead of NHS in the hope that it is much quicker…

Thanks! 😊

Thanks @ToomanyBFNs. So helpful to hear others experience, especially in the same small city! Yes I was sent for an ultrasound and vaginal scan (got an appointment in early August), couldn’t get bloods done until my next cycle so had those on Sept 4th and booked for a follow up appointment to discuss results on Sept 17th.

The lady I spoke to at Bupa said it’s best to get the process started with the NHS and then make a decision but once you decide to use private over the NHS, you can’t go back. She was really helpful. It’s worth calling them and asking to speak to one of the fertility benefit specialists if you haven’t already. It’s so tough to know what to do

Thanks @Limmers14, ok we are pushing forward with the NHS stuff and will see how that progresses. Hope the appointment goes well on the 17 and you get an update on the sperm test soon!

Hi @ToomanyBFNs and @Bonniexx how are you both getting on? Hope some positive progress has been made? Any good results from dealing with Bupa?

Got the results back from my ultrasound and bloods yesterday. All is fine apart from they found chlamydia antibodies! News to me… apparently it means I’ve had it at some point in my life and if untreated, it can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. PID can result in scarring of the tubes and uterus and looking at the symptoms of PID, I’m a match. Felt pretty crap when I found it and contacted Bupa today for a referral to a gynaecologist to try find out if I do have scarring. I felt a bit fobbed off by the NHS as the guy who called me just said “yeah all within normal range, come back when you’re husband has had his semen analysis”

I’m worried we’ll be waiting ages for his results from the NHS and then could be waiting ages for another referral. Just feel so helpless right now.

Hi @Limmers14,

I’m so sorry that that has come back on your results. Sending you lots of love.
I think you should just push NHS as much as you can, I would call the GP back and demand not to wait until the sperm test, there’s clearly a problem so you’d need a referral anyway, whether his come back normal or not? So why not do it now?

Things are moving ahead with Bupa and we are thinking about progressing with them. To be honest I don’t know if I’ve got the energy or patience to wait for the NHS stuff, everything has come back normal so far and I have heard of them making you try for another 12 months if you’ve got unexplained fertility and I just don’t want to do that. We paid for another private consultation just to check we aren’t rushing into IVF and it’s the recommended thing to do and they agreed with what we’ve been told by the clinic with Bupa so that’s what we are thinking of doing.
