TTC and breastfeeding - will it reduce my chances?

Just entering our first month TTC, and I’m still breastfeeding our 19 month old. Periods are regular, but DC still wakes in the night / regularly breastfeeds.

Will this reduce our chances of success? Has anyone here TTC whilst breastfeeding? How long did it take you?

thanks

As far as I understood it, it’s shouldn’t have an impact if you’re having periods.

Hi there! I conceived while BF my 17 months old ☺️ currently about 8 weeks. I did find with using OPKs that my lutal phase was very short and I had read breastfeeding can be a cause of this and it can make conception a bit harder. I was worried this meant I was going to have to wean but I feel pregnant 3rd cycle.

However breastfeeding can effect your fertility even with periods - there's a few articles out there on it. It can do things like affect ovulation, lutal phase etc. Not saying this to been doom and gloom as I managed but it might be a factor to look at of TTC is taking longer than you expect.

A few women conceive whilst BF a three month old EBF baby (rare but possible). Some women conceive once baby is weaning and has dropped a few feeds. Some women conceive after stopping night feeds but still day feeding. Some women cannot conceive until they have completely stopped BF.

However if you are more than a few months pp and are having periods you are more likely to conceive than not, apparently (although can't remember where I've read this). If you are worried about spending months trying fruitlessly, you could do bbt. Not only would it confirm ovulation, it confirms your luteal phase is long enough to successfully implant an embryo.
