Clomid prescribed but already ovulating and no monitoring - - TTC for 11m

Hi all

I'm TTC baby number 2. Had the following tests which all came back normal:

  • hycosy (confirmed ovulation)
  • ultrasound & internal scan
-AMH
  • bloods (FSH, LH, oestrogen, thyroid etc)
  • husband semen analysis

I'm 35 (but had been trying for 7m before turning 35). Baby number 1 was concieved on cycle 1 (yes I know we were very fortunate but lil man had a range of medical issues so swings and roundabouts).

The gynae prescribed clomid and basically just said the risks are only hyper stimulation... But offered no monitoring. I know normal is up to a year and don't want to start medicating if it's just a case that it will take a bit longer for whatever reason.

If anyone has been in a similar situation I would welcome any words or wisdom! X

Not sure why you've been prescribed clomid if they are happy you're ovulating regularly....my hospital and private fertility clinic both said it wasn't needed if I was ovulating. If all your tests are normal I would carry on trying if you don't want to take medication. Did they say what next steps could be instead of/after medication? Was this private as you already have one child?

@moosey89 thanks for your reply. No it was NHS! I asked what the next steps would be and they said private IVF🤷 I am so unsure about taking it and haven't as yet. I had a hycosy which confirmed ovulation.

How does a hycosy confirm ovulation? It only confirms whether your fallopian tubes are blocked.

Ovulation can only be categorically confirmed by ultrasound in the luteal phase. Though a progesterone test will give a decent indication of a functioning corpus luteum.

@sirensong I had a transvaginal scan immediately before the hycosy so was all during the same appt.

@Fairy0708 that's so interesting - the process seems to be different all over the NHS depending what trust you are in and what consultant you see! It's good you got the hycosy so quickly though, must help to give some reassurance. How long ago did you have the hycosy done?

Fairy0708 · 18/07/2024 13:08

@moosey89 yes I was surprised how quickly I was seen but the healthcare in my area is very good.

I had the hycosy in May so on second cycle after it and waiting for AF any day now!
