IVF with vaginismus

First mumsnet post so please be kind :)
So I'm starting to explore my options as I've decided to go down the Single Mum By Choice route (SMBC), but I have quite severe vaginismus and cannot even get past the first hurdle which is a transvaginal ultrasound scan for IVF. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it possible for me to have a regular ultrasound instead or would it not work properly? Because I'm thinking any other option for conception still requires something going up there which is a nightmare for me. Should add I'm also still a virgin because of this, which would make it even more painful and difficult. I'm feeling so hopeless after today as if I'll never get the chance to be a mum. Please does anyone have any advice or experience with this kind of thing?

I think you'd be better off having treatment for the vaginismus. Once that is resolved you might not need IVF.

Do you realise how many internal examinations you have when you are pregnant? I'd imagine even moreso with ivf. Not to mention during birth and post partum? I think you need to speak to someone about the whole process.

You need several internal scans with IVF, then of course you have egg retrieval and egg transfer.

It's worth asking the clinic as I'm sure they'd have had plenty of women in with vaginismus

This plan doesn’t sound very workable. Are you in the UK? If so how will you be accessing this IVF?

Have you ever had any treatment for the vaginismus? I think this should be a priority if you’re serious about going into a pregnancy, however you manage to make that happen.

I have no experience with the IVF but I have the same condition as you. I have it severely, as well, never been able to have sex and I have a beautiful 2 year old so it is possible.

I worked on the vaginismus to the point where I was able to use a syringe during ovulation but could only use a thin 1ml one, anything bigger is still a no go. I was lucky it worked. I had an elective C section so I was so lucky to avoid anything internal for the whole pregnancy, even the catheter was inserted once I had the drugs.

Ideally as other posters have said getting the vaginismus sorted would have been better but I buried it in the sand until my mid 30s as I felt so ashamed. At that point I just wanted to prioritise getting pregnant. I thought I'd tell my story as its not something you really talk about at the family dinner table and I have so much shame about it so it can be a really lonely place. I did get a referral to a fertility clinic before all this to see if there was anything that could be done but got pregnant before I needed it with my method. No harm speaking to them, they must have experienced it before. My midwife said I definitely was not the first to have been pregnant with vaginismus and they had encountered many using the syringe or 'turkey baster' method as well.

Hello. Was it easy for you to become pregnant? I have struggled for 8 months and I also have a low AMH 😔
