advice on egg donation

Ladies, I wonder if you wise women can just point me in the right direction. Need advice for sil who's been ttc for two years and now been told her eggs are those of a nine year old and she should probably look into egg donation
She's upset and confused and I'm trying to help her research this a bit more logically but when I google the subject I feel overwhelmed. Personally feel the docs who told her this should have given her more support but there you go! Have also told her to go on here but she says she doesn't "Do" the internet. Hopefully she'll change her mind
Anyway, any kind pointers welcome. My vague understanding is it's often easier to go abroad for egg donation but I could be wrong. Thank you so, so much

It's a minefield. Basically most hospitals who offer IVF usually offer egg donation by reducing the cost of treatment to women who allow 'spare' eggs collected as part of the treatment to others.

This www.ngdt.co.uk/ is a good site to get the basics.

Sorry I don't know much about this so thought it worth replying to bump.

Can she/you have a look at the Lister IVF clinic in London? They have an egg sharing scheme so people who donate eggs get reduced price treatment. I think it can be done abroad as well but is very expensive.

Also, at her clinic she should be pointed in the direction of some counselling which may be able to give more info, as may the HFEA website. Good luck.

Egg donation waiting times are quite long in this country and even longer since donors can no longer be anonymous. I believe it's c. 2 years.

In the UK your SIL can jump the queue by finding someone willing to donate into the clinic's pool so putting herself at the top of the list.

Overseas would be her best option if she wants to get moving quickly - and often much cheaper than this country even when travel costs factored in. Spain has a massive egg donation industry and so do former Eastern block countries.

Best bet is a young donor - early 20s for good eggs and best success rates.

www.fertilityfriends.co.uk could be a good resource as there are women on there who are having egg donation treatment all over the world. She'd get a good idea of costs, waiting times etc.

I'm not having ED treatment myself but am an IVF veteran so if I can help further do shout.

Not sure about the egg donation but my couson is having IVF & if she donates eggs she gets it at a lower cost, so she has now started donating as she has spent a fortune on ivf.

Thank you so much, I've got her to read this thread and she's looking at fertilityfriends. Fingers crossed!

Just to add my bit - do go to fertility friends as everyone is really helpful. There is a egg donors thread... (for both donors and recipients)
madcows
ps I've recently been an egg donor (for my sister), which was successful, which is pretty amazing after they had been trying for MANY years.

I also wanted to add that some London clinics (The Bridge Centre) are offering faster egg docation from overseas. Not everyone is happy with the ethics of egg donation from women not undergoing fertility treatment but it may be something she wants to consider.

I see some people have already said this (read the thread KC!)
