Hi

We've been trying for baby #2 for 14 months now. I know it's still short in the greater scheme of things, but tonight I'm just feeling a bit despondent. We've seen a doctor recently and they just tested progesterone and thyroid. Both are fine so the advice was to just keep trying for another 6 months. I don't have PCOS or endo or anything else known to affect fertility.

I'm wondering if anyone is / was in a similar place? If you had your second baby since, did you need help or did it happen naturally?

I guess for some reason I just really did not expect us to struggle with number 2.

Thanks!

Hi I’m in a similar boat and also came here for some positive inspiration! My son is 4, we’ve been trying for 18 months. I got a positive test in April but sadly miscarried at 6 weeks. Feeling like it’ll never happen now. Trying to stay positive though and sending you lots of baby luck x

Has your partner had a semen analysis? That may the issue here.

not me, I struggled 8/9 months (not really struggling in the grand scheme of things but it felt it), second was a surprise but my very good friend did, it turns out it was sperm morphology. He took proxeed plus, they conceived but it took closer to 2 years

Yes this happened after we got pregnant first time round very easily. It was male factor - I was pretty fertile.
Never thought we'd be in that position but ended up having IVF and conceived our lovely second child.

If you are in a position to afford it/face it, it might be worth looking into fertility clinics asap. Don't rule it out because "infertility" doesn't seem to describe you when you have a child! The more information you have about your position, the better placed you'll be to decide what to do.

Best of luck Flowers

Thank you for all the feedback. It really helps to feel less alone.

We've decided to have a semen analysis done. Perhaps that will shed some light on the next steps.

@PurpleSeven7 I'm so sorry for your loss and struggle! It's so difficult to feel hopeful every month just to be disappointed again. I'm holding thumbs you'll get your good news soon 🌸

I had it after my first, we conceived the second month we tried with him but number two took over 2 years, we did go to the GP and I had bloods and an ultrasound done and my husband had semen analysis. Nothing was found and then shortly after all the tests I fell pregnant. Then a third came along as a little surprise 4 years later! So don’t give up hope and it’s a cliche but the one month we relaxed and didn’t ‘try’ was the month I caught.

We had similar in that after tests showed that there was nothing wrong we conceived naturally after trying for years. Maybe the pressure was off a bit. I did have an iron deficiency which supposedly can make it harder to conceive so I was taking iron supplements at the time.

I’ve been trying for 3 years for #3. I’m nearly at the point of giving up as it’s looking like I’ll need surgery.

I had c sections with 1 and 2. We’ve had all tests so far and all fine, I’ve had 2 hycosy tests both fine. I’ve tried letrozole cycles and they didn’t work. IVF and didn’t work (have one embryo frozen) I have a defect on my scar which is the only thing left that could be causing this issue and I don’t want to use my last embryo if my uterus isn’t receptive so will likely need the scar ‘fixed’. I’m so fed up of it all

JJB92 · 10/07/2024 09:45

@Impossiblethree it must have been such a frustrating journey so far and it seems like there is never any definite answers. I didn't even know that it's possible to have a defect on your scar.

Good luck on deciding what to do next. And if you go ahead with the surgery, I really hope that it works out for you.

@Impossiblethree I was in a similar position to yourself. I had a c section with my first and tried for 5 years for #2. All test came back normal. I had a laparoscopy and dye, and they discovered lots of scar tissue, some of which they were able to remove during the laparoscopy. I fell pregnant the next cycle after 5 years!

Thankyou I’m just so exhausted of it all. Hoping to have some answers about surgery when I’ve had my appt in a couple of weeks . I’m trying to focus on being in good health eating well and exercising to focus my mind so that if I do have the repair some point my body will be ready for pregnancy if I’m lucky

Thankyou so much for this I’ve been feeling so so negative about it all to hear a positive story is so helpful. I can’t think what else the issue could be as we’ve ruled out absolutely everything else. So pleased you managed to have a good outcome 😊

Eminen · 10/07/2024 10:58

@Impossiblethree I know exactly what you mean. TTC#2 was the toughest time of my life, it was all consuming and so draining. Likewise, every test was coming back normal, and the lap and dye and hysteroscopy was the last test they were willing to do for us so it was almost a relief that they found adhesions related to my previous c section, just so I could put a label on my infertility! You are not alone, I discovered during my struggles that there are many people in similar situations. I wish you all the best and hope you get some answers 😊

LavenderSweetPea · 10/07/2024 20:24

@Impossiblethree sorry to jump in here, but I was just wondering with your treatment with letrozole were you able to get that treatment through the NHS, or did you have to go privately because you already had a child?
