Been to the doctors today and now I am sick of being hypothyroid

Hi
I have been ttc my 2nd dc for 8 months.
Cycle though has been irregular which my doctor put down to a underactive thyroid.

I have just had the results of hormone tests and everything is okay with those.
However thyroid which previously was okay is now underactive again with tsh at 19.
Thyroxine has been increased again.

My doctor is adamant that the reason for irregular af, long cycles etc, is down to the thyroid.

I have asked for a referral to a fertility specialist but my doctor thinks it is pointless as they will only tell me what she has told me, she believes that I need to get my condition under control before I worry.

However she has referred me to put my mind at rest.
I am beginning to think my doctor is right and I am jumping the gun.
What do you mumsnetters think have I done the right thing or am I going to look like a fool.
I am just quite anxious atm as I am 37 and I am also at threat of a early menopause as its in the family.
Tbh I am worried that being hypothyroid may stop me having any more dc's and then it will be too late for me.
Is there anybody else out there got a dodgy thyroid and who is ttc.

TSH at 19 is very high

Given the time taken to actually see someone for referral it is just as well to go through with that too

19 is very high! They should be treating you extremely proactively. If you are worried about fertility, early menopause etc, I would push for referral to a fertility specialist.

But then I'm hardly one to talk with my slightly dodgy thyroid and refusal to get my GPs to refer me for fertility investigations.

And have been off contraception and ttc for 4.5 years (one m/c in that time). Thryoid does affect fertility, it's pretty well documented. My hormones are up the proverbial creek. Am not even sure I have normal cycle most months, although I do have regularish periods.

hi lostit,
remember you from previous threads.Sorry your thyroid is haywire, think you are right to have pushed for referral and not jumping the gun.I think once the thyroid is stabilised then things will fall back to normal but people with thyroid probs often need specialist input when ttc. The fertility people may also involve thyroid specialist to get the levels just right which would also be a good thing.
Although this feels like setback the thryoid will come right and is enough to explain your irregular cycle so means less likely to be anything else wrong.

Hello, i'm pretty new to this site but here goes. I was trying for my first for nearly 3 years, and had suffered bad with irregularity.
I started working for a herbal company and after being there well over a year it suddenly hit me Agnus Castus. Not sure about anyones views on supplements but even though i worked for the company i thought they were a load of rubbish and it was all in peoples head that they were beneficial.
It's got a general use for ladies going through the change however can lengthen short cycles and and shorten long ones. Also meant to increase fertility for those ladies defficient in particular hormones - can't remember which now.
So 2 months on this Agnus Castus there we were a baby in the making. Sorry if this is completely useless just thought i'd share as i know how frustrating it can be.

Thanks all
You know I am now finding it quite irritating that my gp had not got the actual results of my hormone tests in front of her.
She just told me repeatedly that they were all okay, when I would of liked to have known what my fsh level etc actually was.
She said all my hormones were okay and so she passed them over.

I think she senses my anxieties, but thinks that when I actually ask about what the results actually said I should just take her word that they are okay and that is all that matters.

I am not really a forward person so don,t like to push too much.
