Feeling down: PCOS diagnosis

I am feeling like this month was probably not a success due to A) my BD timing was a bit off (O-2) and B) I was just told I have PCOS due to high testosterone in bloodwork. I'm getting an ultrasound soon to confirm it.

I did actually ovulate this cycle though from temp tracking. I wasn't temp tracking before, so I'm unsure if I previously ovulated or not.

Gonna start taking inositol, and try to drop a few pounds, and pray that will help. Anyone else here in a similar boat? I know you can have kids with PCOS, but it does make it harder. If you had success with it, please let me know what worked?

Eating PCO/S friendly well helps a lot.
No smoking.
Limit alcohol.
Exercise is helpful.
Loose weight (if necessary).
Talk to doctors about medication.

We have 3 children so dont give up. Lots of women with PCO/S have children.
Fertility treatment is an option if it doesn't work out on it's own. Ask doctors fir advice.

This is good advice.

I'm a mum of 2 with PCOS (though it was a long journey to get to this point). Some women with PCOS are able to have children though many need extra support because of the impact it may have on ovulation and other health conditions that impact fertility (eg weight gain/diabetes).

There are some excellent support groups out there for women with PCOS (like Verity) and you can speak to other people who have PCOS and are on their fertility journey.

For me PCOS affected my ovulation (amongst other things!) - I only had a handful of periods per year and they weren't regular. Using the temp tracking is a good way to monitor ovulation - it's what I was advised and it helped (as did the other things this poster has suggested).

Fingers crossed for you xx

I was told I had PCOS, had been on the pill for years. Came off it about three months before my wedding, no periods, and obviously ovulated on honeymoon as I came back pregnant.

Good luck 🙂

I was diagnosed with pcos 20 years ago. I had an hsg to check my tubes were clear and then a round of clomid. That kid is now 18. Second son was a surprise pregnancy when I wasn’t having periods at all. it can make it harder to have kids, but not impossible. And this was two decades ago, I’m sure medicine has come a long way (I have no clue what the one is you reference for instance)

good luck!

I also have pcos and high testosterone. I've recently gone to the drs to be referred to fertility to try metformin first, see if I can get my weight down a bit and ovulate before trying ovulation induction medicine if need be.

I've been off contraception since Sept 2021 with one chemical in April 2023 and I've tracked my cycles since then. I have very very irregular cycles. The only thing I've found that can help so far is inositol but following along to get the tips from others!

Thanks everyone!! I hope getting on top of it will help. I see my Dr next week. I has honestly confused when I got the dx because I do have somewhat regular periods.

The most important dietary change you can make with PCOS is reducing/ cutting out sugar, due to the potential insulin resistance. Sugar affects insulin, and insulin affects hormones. Look up Kym Campbell; she reviews all the scientific research and makes it easy to understand. Best of luck! GP can put you on metformin too if you choose to go down that route xx

Yeah that's what I've already read. Thing is I don't really consume much sugar anyways. I don't drink soda or juice or sugary drinks. I don't eat candy or fast food. I only have deserts maybe a couple times a month. My A1c and sugars were normal on bloodwork. So I guess I'm a bit confused about the diagnosis because I thought PCOS only happened to women who were diabetic/pre-diabetic or had obvious symptoms like facial hair or acne (which I don't have).

Thanks again everyone!! This may sound kind odd but literally less than a week after being told I have PCOS and referred to a fertility specialist, I get a BFP. Now praying that this baby sticks.

Diabetes and PCOS can go hand in hand but not always. There's such a wide range of symptoms of PCOS and those who have it won't have them all and may struggle with different things at different points in their life. I'm glad to see you are being referred for support - good luck!

Sorry I meant to quote you in that last post - the first para is your quote then my reply is the second para. Can't edit for some reason!!
