Polyp removal under NHS…. 2-3 year wait time. What can I do?

I’ve been advised by my local hospital it’s a 2-3 year wait time to get a polyp removed. I started my IVf process last year and can’t move any further until removed. I know there’s the option to remove it privately but don’t want to explore that option just yet, the polyp removal privately costs more than the actual IVF treatment itself.

can anyone advise how to be seen sooner under NHS?

Was the waiting time information given to you during an appointment with a specialist after a referral or was that in response to a general enquiry?

If the latter, probably the only way to be treated on the NHS more quickly would be if your GP made a gynaecology referral marked urgent, underlying any symptoms like bleeding or pain.

Is your IVF private or NHS?

It was given in a response to a general enquiry after me calling up recently.

that being said, I had a Hysterocopy last Sept (2023) to check if the polyp was still present which it is. He did some prodding around inside and I unfortunately passed out after the procedure. So the next steps were to get it removed and the surgeon/consultant said I’ll hear back from them handed me a leaflet and left. Silly me thinking it wouldn’t be long and also at this point I felt so weak I was focused on being okay. So I didn’t ask about timescales.

IVF currently NHS.

So you're already on the waiting list? Speak to your GP to see if they can move anything along.

I don’t think they can move things along unless your condition worsens . Sadly I think you have to wait your turn. My friends been waiting nearly 10 months for a cyst removed.

Will do, thank you! 🙂

I have an acquaintance with this problem who travelled back to a war zone to get it done.
Her NHS gyne was a bit miffed when she returned from a 10 day break operated already.

No hope on the nhs, but health care in Central and Eastern Europe is surprisingly straight forward and well pricesd. It sounds scary bit it's actually so much easier than dealing with the NHS.
Once you take the leap you never look back.

That’s appalling, most polyps are benign but not all, I don’t want to scare you but mine had dodgy cells in it. I cannot believe they would actually leave people this length of time, ask them why you aren’t being referred under the 2 week wait.

I know right. It’s awful. I’ll give that a good shout.
