Hi everyone,

Found out recently I was pregnant (shock and surprise at my age) but very much wanted. We were not even trying, only DTD once that month.

Recent scans show it’s non viable.. waiting to miscarry or receive medical management.

Although unexpected it’s made me really want to have another child. Am I totally mad?

Body is clearly capable of conceiving but I’m totally aware of the extremely small odds.

Anyone else here my age TTC? Or managed to conceive naturally?

Just after some support or positive stories really x

Sorry about your scan result.

My mum was born to my grandmother at 45. Get your bloods tested to check your chances! You're obviously still ovulating so it may just be a case of having the resilience to endure multiple miscarriages until you strike on a lucky egg.

Hi @Hoping77
Sorry to hear about your scan result.

I'm in a pretty similar place... I'm just turned 47. Had a surprise pregnancy at 45 which ended at 9 weeks. Made me desperate to try again! We ttc properly for about a year, with no success other than one brief 'chemical' pregnancy. So we quit.
But I discovered a few days ago that I am pregnant again. Sadly I don't think this is viable either - initial test was strong positive, but yesterday's were much fainter. So I suspect another chemical/very early mc (I'm 5 1/2 weeks in)
Anyway.... at least it shows that we can still get pregnant at our age. That's 3 known conceptions for me, in the last 18 months. But as we both know, many of the embryos just won't be viable genetically. So we might have to go through this repeatedly.

From the other forums I've been on, it seems that many older women resort to IVF with egg donation and have success. That's not for me. but it might be the best option if you really, really want a baby?
Otherwise, it's a case of continuing to try naturally, accepting that a successful, full term pregnancy is really quite unlikely. But certainly possible for a small number of us - I hope you're one of the lucky ones!

@lizziecat1

Thanks for replying, and sorry to hear about what you’ve been through and going through.
I don’t think IVF would be for us, I would just continue to try naturally and if it happens it happens. Just unfortunately may have to endure more losses which I guess isn’t for everyone but we don’t have anything to lose by trying.

I know chances are slim to none but there are a few lucky ones.
We’ve not been trying religiously every month but I think we’re going to give it 12 months at least but we are blessed with a beautiful 4 year old girl so we have plenty already to be thankful for.

Im sure there are many other ladies our age just giving it one last try! X
