BFP after "period"

Hi everyone, this is my first post but I'm a long time lurker.

I've been TTC for over a year, and really thought it was going to happen last month as I had more CM and knew I hit the right days.

On May 23rd which would've been day 33 of that cycle, I started to bleed and it didn't seem like implantation bleeding- it was more like a light period. This lasted for a few days so of course assumed it was a period and had BFN up until then.

On this new cycle, I had an ultrasound as part of my fertility investigations and she said I had a large ovary and must be about to ovulate- I said that's strange because it was "CD9" and very early - I usually ovulate around day 18/19.
I went home and did ovulation tests and they were all peak. Today, after 4 days of peak ovulation tests, something told me to do a pregnancy test and straight away it was a strong BFP- my first one ever. I followed up with a FRER and digital pregnancy test which said 2-3 weeks from my previous cycle.

I'm super worried and concerned, especially with the medium bleeding 13 days ago. I don't know what to think? Is it a chemical pregnancy and I'm still testing positive?

Is there any chance I am actually pregnant? If anyone has experience anything similar, please let me know.
Waiting for my doctor to call back and I guess they'll send me for a blood test? Would this confirm a CP or pregnancy?
Thanks so much to anyone reading this long panicked essay!

Wow, that's a bit of a headfuck! Hopefully your GP will refer you to your EPU where they can do bloods. Would you be 6 weeks? EPUs can be reluctant to see people before that. Everything crossed for you though.

Such a headfuck! I'm trying to do all the maths and look back at the last few weeks.

Yes, I technically would be nearly 6 weeks- 5 weeks 6 days. I was testing on day DPO12 and 13 and didn't even see a faint line.

Hopefully my GP will get in touch soon, and until then I'll keep searching online for similar situations.

Thank you :)

So you technically had a scan when you much have been pregnant? Did they say anything about your womb thickness? I'd honestly be more worried about an ectopic than a chemical, especially having had a light period.

I had an ectopic last year and story was similar to yours, we weren't trying at the time but had a period (mine wasn't even light, but did come a bit early), followed by many positive opks - we were about to start trying and the few days shorter cycle confused me a little, followed by a BFP.

ThatBloatIsBloating · 04/06/2024 22:04

I was coming on to say this sounds similar to my ectopic. Have you had any 1 sided pain?

SaltedPotato · 04/06/2024 22:15

Coming on here to say that this happened to me... Turns out I had a pregnancy of unknown location (ectopic that couldn't be visualised despite rising hcg) I'd get in touch with your early pregnancy unit x

Peppermints2 · 04/06/2024 22:24

Hello. I really hope it's not ectopic, it also sounds similar to my ectopic (bfn, a "period" then a bfp)

Two blood tests done 48hrs apart will give you a better idea of whether it's a viable pregnancy.

Best of luck, hang in there xx

Hi @MitchyTitchy how are you getting on, did you test again?

Hi @MitchyTitchy how are you getting on, did you test again?

All of the above posts hit the nail on the head. I had an ectopic pregnancy :(

It’s been a horrendous and hectic few days, and I’m home today after surgery yesterday to remove the pregnancy and left fallopian tube. It was so close to rupturing, so I’m glad I am safe and ok.

They said there was no signs or reasons why it happened, and everything else looked good in there. Really unlucky and unfortunate.

the chances of another one are higher, but have to keep positive and optimistic.

have any of the above posters managed to get pregnant naturally after an ectopic?

xxx

Ah I'm so sorry to hear that. Take your time now to recover and plenty of rest.

I got pregnant very easily after my ectopic (didn't have a tube removed) and then pregnant again a year after my eldest was born. I then had another suspected ectopic that resolved itself and I'm now pregnant again. It will happen again for you when you're recovered and you'll be very well taken care of until the EPU can determine the pregnancy is in the correct location (roughly 6 weeks).

Peppermints2 · 09/06/2024 20:27

Hey!

Aw no, really sorry to hear your update. Mine was the left tube as well.

I'm 28wks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I conceived 2nd cycle with only 1 tube. So don't despair, when you feel ready it could be quite quick.

Also, yes there's a higher risk of a second ectopic - but there's still a 90% chance that the pregnancy will be in the correct place. Also I think some of the risk is because of scarring in the tube at the site of the previous ectopic, but you've had the tube removed.

Sorry though, it's such a shock when it happens. Hope you have a smooth recovery x

@MitchyTitchy im so sorry to hear that but glad you are safe. Its easier said than done but try to focus on rest and recovery. Youll get your bfp soon. I hope they have oferred you some support through all this?
