Anyone else had to do a Chlamydia test?

Hi, very strange I know. But I went to the GP for the first time about fertility issues and she pressed my stomach and I got pain on the lower pelvic area. The GP has given me a vaginal swab to do and I didn’t realise it was for a Chalmydia test until I got home. Since then I’ve had a deep dive on Google, and come across Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, caused by Chlamydia which can lead to infertility if left untreated.

Apparently the symptoms are quite subtle and don’t show and this chlamydia can be hidden. I only have one symptom at present which is the pain in lower pelvic, has anyone else has this test? Is it common?

I’ve only had 2 sexual partners, my husband and an ex from many years ago. My husband (as far as I know) has never had sex with anyone except me, so my worry is that if it is chlamydia it’s been untreated from many years ago from my awful ex! Panicking a lot as you can all imagine. Any help, or advice would be appreciated thank you all in advance. ☺️

It's absolutely routine to do for lower abdominal pain in women - don't worry.

I had to do it too and I have no pain, my GP said it’s routine for referral, tick box exercise

Thank you both so much! I’m so relieved now thank you! The GP should have told me this rather than me panicking at home 🤣

It's routine with fertility checks to have that done. I had a swab and blood test done for it. Also worth saying I had PID in my early 20's due to an ex and I wasn't left with any damage from it which could have caused fertility issues. Dont overthink it or panic.

As above, it’s routine to screen for STI’s with pelvic/abdominal pain. Outside of STI’s other causes could be PID, PCOS, polycystic ovaries, fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic congestion syndrome, and UTI’s. Sometimes some stomach/bowel conditions like IBS can also have pelvic/abdominal tenderness depending on the severity of the inflammation etc. All treatable/manageable so try not to worry too much (I know easier said than done) x

Ah okay, I’m doing a blood test too so this all makes sense now. I’m so glad to hear it didn’t cause any damages to you, the stuff I was reading terrified me about PID especially since it had been years since I was with my ex. Thanks for helping Louise ☺️

This is all so new to me and I’ve been worried about learning more and doing tests, thank you so much for teaching me and reassuring me! The mind is a crazy place to be at in times like this. I’m glad to hear they’re all treatable, can finally enjoy the rest of my day xx
