Just taken a clearblue digital and I am pregnant... I haven't reacted the way I thought I would, I haven't cried or smiled or anything, I feel numb. Is this normal? I'm so scared

Congratulations 🥰 I was like that with my two previous pregnancies, I think it's just a whole range of emotions. Had you tested before now?

Yes, I tested positive yesterday on a easyathome and had the same reaction😭

Congratulations!!
Normal! Fear was my first reaction to both of my positive pregnancy tests to both of my very much wanted children!!!

Juliet194 · 24/05/2024 17:13

Yes. Very normal. I felt the same with my first pregnancy; shit scared and quite detached from the idea of actually being pregnant.

A few of my friends also felt the same, including ones who had been trying for years and had fertility treatment.

Congrats btw, but don't worry, it's normal to not to be instantly grinning like the woman on the clearblue adverts. It's a massive life change, it would be weird if you weren't a bit scared.

Carportforme · 24/05/2024 20:24

Jellyfish2 Congratulations. I got mine today too 😁 I know we have both had our trials so let's toast with a glass of lemonade and wish us both success this time and healthy happy pregnancies. We will be due around the same time if all goes well.

Have you been trying for a while @Spinkyttc ? It may be the shock/ surprise

It's been about a year, I had a polyp removed in March and a Hycosy in April

Congratulations!! I got a BFP on the weekend and I felt very much the same and did with my first too (both very wanted and waited for 14 months with the first, 6 with this one).

It's a lot to take in and can take a while to process, there's a bit of time now tho where you can let the idea of it finally happening sit. I only really got excited when I had my first scan last time, before that I was too scared and worried something would go wrong!

@Spinkyttc I understand you feeling that way and it's still very raw right now. When it comes to TTC, anything can happen at any time, it really is "never say never"

This little one was just too precious for this world. Sending lots of hugs and thinking of you x

Yes I know. One thing that is playing on my mind is if the egg implanted in my uterus. It says on some website that one possible cause of chemical pregnancy is implantation outside of the uterus. This has really scared me that my tubes are damaged and that's why x

There could be lots of reasons and it's natural to want to know what's happened. I had a failed round of IVF 18 months ago and was told the most likely reason; but that they won't know for sure as could be a wide range of things. I think this will be the same with your chemical, so try not to Google too much (I know it's easier said than done and I'm giving out advice I never followed myself 🤦🏻‍♀️)

The good you can take from this is that at least one of your tubes is open and the sperm did fertilise the egg.

Infertility is cruel and a rollercoaster, take some time to grieve but don't give up. You've got this xx

I think what worries me is that my egg wasn't able to travel down my tube. I have had a Hycosy which confirmed both tubes are open, but this doesn't say if they are working as they should, ie the cilia which push your egg to your uterus. I know I'm overthinking and it was likely implanted where it should but I can't help but worry now x

Spinkyttc just wanted to say I am really sorry for your loss. Sending hugs. Such a lot of pain after joy. Life is a xxxxx sometimes x

CaribbeanCupcake · 30/05/2024 07:50

@Spinkyttc it's still early days so take some time to process what's happened. If you're still worrying about it in the future, you could request some tests to check that.

Lots of women have chemicals and then go on to have healthy pregnancies so try not to worry too much about what you don't know... I know easy for me to say and at this moment your head will be spinning with questions and wanting to know what's happened. It's desperately cruel and unfair when you have been trying for a long time. I wish I could say something to make you feel better xx
