Low Progesterone

Hey there! I have an almost two year old I still breastfeed. My periods came back around 13 months pp and very regular, I was irregular before pregnancy, though. Then I missed Decembers. Then I went from January through to last week without a period! Doctor did a blood test and all normal except my progesterone was low at 2. Normal range at 29 and over.
However, typically, my period started the day before my test. I told them and they were happy for me to have the test anyway but I can’t help but think this doesn’t paint an accurate picture as progesterone is low at the time of a period.
they did scan me and saw signs of PCOS, I just want to know if that’s the causes of my irregular period and I have hair growing in places it shouldn’t on a woman. 😅
I just would like to know how much trouble I’d have if I were to TTC again, I feel I have a miracle baby I am so grateful for, but want to know if it’s fruitless to try again as I am 33 and DH is 34 this year and I have hypothyroidism 🙈
has anyone had hormones tested around a period? I’ve been referred to gynae for it being low so hopefully have more answers but it’s next month so feel like I should ask for further hormone tests beforehand!
pretty sure they’re supposed to do it around ovulation time, right?

If you have long irregular cycles, excessive body hair and signs from a scan, it seems that you could well have PCOS. Given you have already had a child, however, I'd say any issues are likely surmountable.

Progesterone is low on day 2/3 and not the primary hormone to look at for PCOS. It's often also measured 7 days after detection of an LH surge to confirm whether ovulation has actually happened. It may be tricky to detemine your surge if your cycles are really long, and PCOS can also result in elevated LH for long stretches. Hopefully the specialist can look at your complete hormone profile and suggest a solution.

Oh wow! Seems like it gets truly tricky to detect via a blood test. My periods are never in a usual cycle. I’ve asked the GP if they need to do another test in 21 days so I’ll see what they say! Thanks for your advice :)
