TWW after miscarriage

Hi everyone,

Thought I’d start a thread here for anyone in a similar place.

I found out back in April that I was having a missed miscarriage (MMC). Basically nothing grew after about 5 weeks and we found out at about 6.5 weeks. It was gutting. I opted to go down the surgical route (totally happy to answer questions if anyone had any). That was on April 17th.

We had sort of intended to wait until after my first period to try again just to make dating easier if I caught. I was away for work last week and just kind of assumed I ovulated then as that would have been during the 2 weeks after the surgery.

BUT yesterday I had a bunch of EWCM and we also DTD with no pressure as we weren’t really ‘trying’. Lo and behold I’ve had a peak OPK reading today so looks like I’ll ovulate tomorrow. Didn’t expect that and thought maybe my EWCM was just messed up timing cause my cycle is weird after the MC.

I’m not sure how to feel! When we tried before the MC I fell pregnant the first time and we were so shocked and pleased. So this time I’m thinking like, are we lucky enough for that to happen again? Probably not, but it would be amazing.

I’m also worried that if I do fall again it’ll be a huge faff with dating and that we’ll get a row 😂 or be perpetually worried if timings are behind etc. That’s why I took an OPK today as I wasn’t intending to track this month to give myself a break.

Anyone else in a similar position? Or trying again after an MC? 💜

@purplecolouroffunk

I hear you on the date issue. If it comes to it, I'm sure it would all work itself out, it's these early weeks where you're trying to work out the LMP/ovulation/fertilisation and how far along you could be, I remember it well and I think my calendar was the most used app on my phone those two months!

I remember being nauseous and hating the taste of tea and coffee being the main symptoms before my MC, weirdly enough I didn't go off the taste of them with my second pregnancy. I was convinced I was going to have another MC as I felt I had no symptoms and wasn't nearly as nauseous as I had been! So definitely not the exact same symptoms. Although after my 12 week scan I remember looking back at the last few months and realising how exhausted, run down and off my food I was, but I just wasn't convinced it was due to being pregnant. Which it definitely was!

7 DPO is early for symptoms but good to be aware of any changes you might be seeing and feeling! No two pregnancies seem to be the same which can be a minefield!

How is everyone doing? Sorry been AWOL, been trying not to think about things, didn't work lol. I'm now 12dpo, I feel like this is the slowest moving two weeks wait ever. I've had a few tests with shadows but not a positive i can trust. Still have really sore boobs and pinching cramps. I'm waiting to hear back from GP about oral progesterone but they asked my obgyn who said he didn't know about it 🤷🏻‍♀️ and so they've sent a letter to recurrent miscarriage clinic asking them meaning I'll have a long wait now. It should just be as simple as prescribing it and me taking it, I half feel like I'm having another chemical now, the amount of faints and symptoms and knowing I have low progesterone it's frustrating that they can't just prescribe me something my previous gynecologist told me to take. Anyhoo, getting myself frustrated lol. I'm hoping the tests start to do more than just shadows. Pic below of what I mean x

And I keep getting ones that look like they will be positive while they developing. But then have a shadow or bfn after 3 mins 😭

Thank you! This helps to know that at least you had different symptoms :)

@DarkCrystal85 I caved and did a test today at 11dpo and it was stark white :( So I'm guessing that's probably me out as think I'd see a hint of something by now.

OP posts:
DarkCrystal85 · 20/05/2024 11:37

I do need to keep reminding myself that I got bfn all the way through to 14dpo with one of the pregnancies and then morning of 14dpo negative and evening positive so until af shows there's still a chance xx

purplecolouroffunk · 20/05/2024 12:48

@DarkCrystal85 oh that's good to hear! Maybe there's hope for me yet. I think I'll hang on til 14dpo on Thursday now.

I hope you're doing okay? It's frustrating about your tests - I really hope you're not having another chemical :( If you've not had positives in the past til 14dpo I'd definitely hang on though!

God it's so tough isn't it, the hope, and then the disappointment...

OP posts:
DarkCrystal85 · 22/05/2024 12:13

@purplecolouroffunk how are you doing? I'm out now but I think I possibly had another chemical, like something tried to happen. I had 5 days of sticks picking up the smallest amount causing a very faint line/shadow but then yesterday all my symptoms disappeared and this morning I woke up to a very heavy period, it usually starts off slow but not today, very sore and crampy back and tummy. Roll on next cycle. I'm gutted though as I am away for the weekend from Fri morn to Sunday night next weekend and it looks like I will be ovulating over that time 🤦🏻‍♀️

purplecolouroffunk · 15/05/2024 18:54

Hi @V1kster88, welcome! I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. That sounds so tough having to wait for no heartbeat like that, I’m so sorrry.

We actually have eerily similar timings and stories. I found out last month at 7.5 weeks that nothing had grown since 5 weeks. We never had a heartbeat and they basically never saw much of an embryo in there.

We also ended up DTD unprotected a bit sooner than I expected, which is the reason I took some OPKs and then yep, almost same as you, had a positive one 2 days later!

I’m 6dpo so also super similar to you there too. I’m already feeling unhopeful/disappointed as when I was pregnant I had sore boobs start at 6dpo and they looked huge, and no whiff off that yet. Although I know pregnancies can all be so different, but I’m just not feeling it this month. I really hope your signs mean a BFP for you!! I totally know what you mean about the mentally feeling pregnant thing. It sucks.

Was this your first pregnancy? And also, super early yet, but when do you think you’ll test? 😅

This was my 3rd pregnancy, I have a 16 year old son and a 15 month old girl. Didn’t cross my mind that the last pregnancy wouldn’t go as easy and straightforward as those.

I had some pin prick type sensations a few days ago and my lower back is still really sore was so I was so hopeful but I’m 13dpo now and still getting BFNs so I’d imagine I’m out this cycle. Hoping AF rears her ugly head sooner rather than later so I can get back to grips with my cycle and have something to focus on again.

How are you getting on?

purplecolouroffunk · 27/05/2024 11:16

Hello! Been a bit radio silent the past week...

A bit like you @DarkCrystal85 I had a very suddenly heavy period - first one since the MMC in April. I think it was one of the heaviest periods I've ever had in my life, or at least that I can remember anyway. Heavy and cramping for 4 days (with one MEGA heavy day where I had to wear maternity pads) and then basically nothing.

Super unusual for me as I usually spot for about a week in the lead up to AF and then the proper flow comes for about 5-6 days, but never that heavy. Feels good to have it all done after just 4 days! I'm hoping this will be a pattern now but I bet it's not and is just cause of the f**ked up hormones and extra lining coming out the cycle.

Oh no I'm sorry you'll be ovulating when you're away! You might be okay if you focus on the few days before you go away? When I got pregnant it was (miraculously) from DTD 5 days before ovulation 😅

@V1kster88 how are you getting on?

OP posts:
DarkCrystal85 · 06/06/2024 13:20

Hello, how is everyone this month/cycle? My ovulation was lucky as it waited till I got back, I saw donor on Monday on day of peak LH test and ovulated Tuesday so that was very lucky, hoping the one visit was a success and I'm now 2dpo. So into the tww I go haha...yay 🙈 did you take any more tests after your odd period? X

purplecolouroffunk · 09/06/2024 21:28

Hey @DarkCrystal85!

So glad to hear you were able to see your donor at the right time - yay! Massive fingers crossed for you. So 6dpo - so less than a week now til you can hopefully get a reliable test? Not too long!

I’m feeling good this month! I have a sneaky suspicion I maybe didn’t ovulate last cycle as I never really had any ovulation pains and that’s always super common for me. But I’ve had a bunch this cycle so that’s good.

This cycle I’ve had buckets of EWCM 😂 it lasted for about 6 days so I’m hoping that means I’m really fertile. We managed to time DTD really well with ovulation too. Thank god for OPKs - I ov’d on CD19 and would just never have known without OPKs. The cycle I fell I ov’d on CD17 so hoping it doesn’t make a difference that it’s a bit later.

1dpo for me now! Long wait ahead 😂

@V1kster88 how are you getting on?

OP posts:
DarkCrystal85 · 10/06/2024 15:58

Aww I'm keeping everything crossed for you, that all sounds very promising 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Yep, 6dpo, I'll probably start my obsessive peeing on a stick tomorrow night haha 🙈 I did get a new batch ordered last month just before af so I have a fair few anyway. I've decided to take the progesterone pessaries I had left from 3dpo a long with the aspirin so hoping my progesterone isn't quite so low this time, waiting for the docs to get their finger out and onto the same page as me is taking too long, I've had 2 chemical losses in the time I've been waiting for them to sort the oral progesterone so decided to just do it myself, it hasn't been too bad as I'm using rectally instead of vaginally and so far haven't had any flare ups of skin condition so fingers crossed this may actually be the way forward with the pessaries and if something tries to happen again I have a higher level of progesterone to help them along. I did only see the donor the one day but hoping that was sufficient x

purplecolouroffunk · 15/06/2024 20:37

@DarkCrystal85 how you getting on? Any luck for you?

Good idea on the pessaries! Anything that could help is a great idea and what harm can it do? It’s so annoying that your dr is taking so long to get you more. I never understand why they’re so reluctant to prescribe it when they know it doesn’t do any harm, but also that it might help.

I’m at 7dpo now, possibly 8. I’ve had shooting pains in my nipples this evening which I haven’t experienced before! Boobs getting a bit sore. I’m hoping it’s a good sign. Going to try to hold out until Thu or Fri to test, so 12/13dpo.

I’ve had my usual luteal spotting but it’s started earlier this cycle again, which was the same as my pregnant cycle. So again hoping that’s a good sign even though it’s annoying.

Hope you’re doing okay! Xx

@DarkCrystal85 oh my goodness what do you think of this??

Only 10dpo so it’s very faint if it is anything. Could it be an indent? It definitely has a slight colour in person…

Your test looks positive, OP.

DarkCrystal85 · 18/06/2024 17:26

Oooo @purplecolouroffunk that looks promising 😁 I really hope it progresses for you and it does look like a real positive and not an indent you can see it has colour on it even on here, calm congratulations, let me know how you get on over the coming days xx

I've had another chemical, had very faint positives every morning and night from day 9 till 12 and had all the usual symptoms I get with pregnancy/chemicals and then yesterday woke up and no symptoms and stark white negatives tests again and same this morning and I'm sat 14 so due on today. I have a load of test results with recurrent miscarriage clinic on the 1st so I'm really hoping there actually is something wrong so it can be fixed xxx

purplecolouroffunk · 19/06/2024 12:20

@DarkCrystal85 thank you! Line looking at bit stronger at 11dpo today - pic below :) I’m really hoping this is it for me, I’m already worried about another MMC but trying to assume the best unless I hear otherwise.

Im so so sorry to hear about your chemical. I can’t believe the luck you’re having. I’m also really glad you have some clinic tests lined up - hopefully they’ll be able to identify what’s going on because you’re clearly super fertile! I’m sending you lots of love 💜

Oh yes that's definitely progressed very nicely I'm so so happy for you 😍 I completely understand your fear, pregnancy after loss is so hard, I told myself 'today I am pregnant, I am pregnant with a different baby and a different story' here is a picture I had on my phone screen saver. I'm wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy xx

Thankyou, I'm wondering if I am hyperfertile with bad eggs or something. I see those lines every month but just don't allow myself to get excited until I see progression which I never do apart from the 2 that stuck only to leave me a few weeks later. I had bloods taken a few weeks ago so I'm hoping all the results including my genetics tests from Feb are in and I can be given the full list of results. I keep checking my NHS app but there's only 3 on there and I had 14 done, I really hope she isn't going to tell me on the 1st that they need to re done.

purplecolouroffunk · 19/06/2024 12:46

Oh @DarkCrystal85 that is so sweet and exactly what I needed to hear - thank you for posting! I love those commandments and I think keeping that in mind will really help me. I going to stay tentatively positive. I'll keep you updated.

I really hope you are able to get some answers. And I hope they have those test results for you on the 1st - what a bummer if they make you do those again. Has your donor ever had any tests done?

OP posts:
DarkCrystal85 · 19/06/2024 13:03

He's had some tests done last year after my Feb loss due to my loss and also one of the other donor kids has hypermobility but all his tests have come back fine, his sperm is good and has good mobility and if needed he is willing to have further tests done. Apart from the child with hypermobility none of his donors have had losses, (my wife lost our son at 16 weeks but he was perfect, and infection had gone into the placenta when she had horrific food poisoning) so even my consultant feels like the issue lays with me as a kind of process of elimination. Due to my last baby having trisomy 15 and the baby before losing their heartbeat at the same time but them never being received by the labs (the hospital I handed baby and placenta to managed to misplace my baby - thats a whole other story) I'll never know if baby before had chromosomal issues. I'm just keeping everything crossed that SOMETHING is wrong somewhere so that it can be fixed as the next thing will be IVF with eggs being tested but I'd need to use an anon donor for that with the same blood type as me (I'm negative and donor is positive) but I really want my baby to be related to the daughter my wife carried so it's the last option for us really x

Keep saying those commandments to yourself xxx
