Trying to fall pregnant for the second time!

Hi everyone just after some reassurance really!

me and my partner have been trying for a baby since August 2023. It happened so quickly with my first I suppose I thought it would happen quick again. I’m now thinking what have I done different? What am I doing wrong? What if I can’t have another one? I am blessed with a beautiful baby boy so I don’t want to sound ungrateful as I already have one healthy baby! But has anyone else experienced the second time trying taking longer? I have so many mixed emotions!

Thank you

It’s very common, hormones can be altered a lot from pregnancy. Are you doing everything you can lifestyle wise? (No smoking or alcohol, healthy diet, exercise, lowering stress). And tracking ovulation? Unfortunately there’s no guarantees even with easy conception for baby 1. You could ask GP for tests after 1 year of trying but I’ve heard it’s hit and miss whether they will refer if you already have a child.

Speak to your GP to get some tests done.

If there's an issue, they can refer for secondary infertility.

You won’t get offered IVF though.

Not on the NHS no but can pay for it.

I'm just approaching 2 years trying for a second after conceiving DC first month trying. Turns out those couple of years have made all the difference to my fertility.

That said, you haven't been trying long in the grand scheme of things, so try not to worry, but depending on your age get referred or tests sooner rather than later as they do take a while to sort.

I’ve spoken to my GP. They have no concerns as I have regular 28 day cycle. But will do reasuurance tests after a year if I want them done. I was more wondering if anyone else experienced it taking longer with their second.

I’m aware I won’t get offered IVF.

I fell pregnant right away with our first (I mc though) and it took us 2.5 years to succeed again. The difference for me was that when we started trying for the baby we just dropped contraception but kept living our lives as normal and DTD because we were in the mood, where as the second time around we were trying, tracking etc so the whole mindset was different. Once I stopped tracking and thinking about it and started living again and seducing my DH because I wanted him it worked out. Plus I had started taking Ubiquinol and Proceive Max 2 months earlier. My GP did say it often takes longer with subsequent pregnancies but he was happy to refer me to any kind of tests he could just to make sure there was no medical reason. I know it's frustrating to try month after month that's why trying to concentrate on other things helps (at least me).

@Olika thank you so much! A lot of people have said that to me, that as hard as it is put it to the back of my mind and stop over thinking it and constantly testing etc! So I think I will just try and be more relaxed about it all. I’m a terrible over thinker! I’m glad you got there in the end ❤️
