Cramping days before positive ovulation test. Confused!

Hello! I'm TTC baby #2 and on my first natural cycle after coming off the pill. Before being on the pill my cycles were 7 weeks long, but on day 12/13 of this cycle I felt strong cramping in my left ovary and took an ovulation test out of interest. It was negative and I continued to cramp for 2 more days and then I finally got a smiley tace on the ovulation test. The day after that it was smiley too. Everything I read online suggests that cramping is a sign of ovulation as the egg is being released so I feel like I've missed it but I didn't get my LH until days later. I'm a bit confused so wondering if anyone can help clarify how this works!
Thanks!

I had this once and on a scan a few weeks later there was two small cysts on that ovary. I don't know that it was but the pain might have been the cysts - is previously had surgery on that ovary 4 months prior so I know it was clear then.

Usually I start ovary cramping exactly when I get my LH peak.

Thank you for replying to me! ❤️ I was tested for PCOS a while back which came back showing high testosterone levels and that's why I was put back on the pill. Didn't have any pain or cramping so GP wasn't concerned. Will keep an eye on this now as a possibility!
