Sorry to bring bad news but I had 5 injections in total - had my last injection 3.5 years ago and still ttc!! Some people have only taken a year though... I would get off it now! Good luck!

I was on it for 6 months before DH an I agreed to TTC'ing our first, it took me 6 months (that is 6 months from when the third injection would have been due) to get pregnant, but have heard absolute horror stories since, I feel very lucky, and have never gone back on the injection.

crunchynutter · 01/04/2008 11:34

I never even thought about it to be honest- we didn't want a baby and it was easy but now i keep hearing things. had my injection last week and even the nurse made a comment about it taking a while but they always seem to play it down. i cant have a baby for at least 3months due to work commitments but thinking about a nine month pregnancy that sounds silly!!

do you think the fact that ive been on it for so long will make a difference?

I was on the injections for several years (not sure how long) but came off them just before I got married as I knew we would be TTC straight away and was also well aware that it can take ages for your cycle to get back to normal after using DP. I conceived just after a year of trying.

I would go back on the injections personally as I found them very convenient and was aware of all the risks.

Hope this helps, if you think that you are likely to want babies in the next few years I would advise coming off the injections - even if you swap to other methods for a while just to clear your body of DP.

Thanks for the replys- i think weve both been a bit scared by what weve heard. We don't want a baby right now but weve discussed names, schools, feeding! just about everything possible. We kind of agreed maybe were not ready but to be honest theres no reason why not (own home, good jobs, healthy etc) he wants me to come off it and 'see what happens' but i'm scared i wont be able to conceive and ill start obsessing so i stayed on it- is that silly?

its really helpful to hear from others who have been on it though, i always feel the nurses are a bit guarded about the issue!

HI crunchy, I have 2 ds pre- injection, after second ds wanted something convenient like the injection, but then thought would quite like another one...but nothing yet... tried clomid last year have had all the tests nothing wrong, am considering iui next... must be mad but now its been this long can't go back iykwim...

NatalieJane · 01/04/2008 11:43

When we decided to go for our first child, we looked on the net about how long it takes to come out of your body and it said 18 months, now to be fair, most people I have talked to about it have gotten pregnant within 18 months of coming off it, but there are a number of people who took longer to get pregnant, but then maybe they would have had a few problems anyway? Who knows?

crunchynutter · 01/04/2008 11:47

thats the thing- you just don't know what you would be like naturally- i think i'm guna get my dear hubby to take a look at this chat though and have a good chat. Would you be able to recommend a website with facts NJ? 18 months sounds about when we would like one!
Minxi- sorry to be dumb bu what does iykwim mean?

IYKWIM = if you know what I mean, Acronym list lists not all, but most of them here

Ermmmm, it was nearly 7 years ago we were looking for info on the Depo, so can't remember exactly where we got it from, but I am sure if you put a search into either MN or Google, you will find something about it.

I had one injection, and vowed never ever to have it again as I felt so ill on it.

6mths after it should have ran out, i still hadn't had a period, and saw my gp, who said it was very common for periods to take months to return even after one jab.

My periods finally returned about 8mths afterwards, and I got pregnant almost straight away.

crunchynutter · 01/04/2008 12:13

thanks NJ- you're a star!

Not sure about that, but I'm not gonna stop you saying it

crunchynutter · 01/04/2008 20:19

bloody hell- i know your all gone but just in case...

just found a previous thread where someone had asked about it and found a link to horror stories- i think (hopefully im not being paranoid!) that most of these 'side effects' i have. im always told its unrelated blah blah blah so just presumed headaches, neck cramps and depression were somehow work related. I feel really stupid now, thinking i should have listened to my DH and come off it ages ago (blush)
