Hello, would really love to hear your stories.

I have mild PCOS with irregular periods (between 32 and 45 days). I conceived easily last year on a short cycle — 32 day — but it ended in MMC at 13 weeks last October..

This cycle I ovulated at CD28 (confirmed) and to my huge surprise have just got a faint BFP at CD38.

I’m delighted to be pregnant again but terrified by an old study I’ve read which said late ovulation pre-disposes fertilised egg to miscarriage/ectopics/chromosome abnormalities/anatomic anomalies (I know I should stop reading so much but I’m a bit neurotic after the miscarriage 🙉).

Really keen to hear people’s experiences — good and bad — of pregnancy after late ovulation!

Hi! I know it’s been a while but wondered what your experience was following this? Sort of in a similar situation! Would love to know how you got on xx

Hello! I’m 21 and a half weeks now and all looking perfect. He’s a little boy and measured 50th percentile for everything at 20 weeks. Due on Christmas Day :) No one has seemed at all worried about the late ovulation, if you can try and put it out of your mind (easier said than done I know). Good luck with everything Xx

Thank you so much for replying and many congratulations how wonderful! Really pleased to read this.

I’m probably panicking over something really insignificant but the reason for my frantic mumsnet googling (and stumbling across your post) is I usually have a regular cycle and get my peak OPK on day 15 or 16. This month I’ve got my peak today which is day 18. Not usually something to be overly concerned about but I tried in April this year (my first month trying) and had the exact same cycle with ovulation slightly delayed to day 18, got pregnant to my surprise for it being my first month trying but ended in a chemical. I too, like you am now worrying that late ovulation means bad egg. I didn’t try May June or July as we had 2 big holidays planned and didn’t want to be potentially pregnant for those so we’ve put on hold until August but of course, the month we decide to get going again, it’s a odd cycle. May June and July were all perfectly usual cycles for me (was still tracking just to keep an eye on things).

Im currently debating trying this evening as I have my peak but my brain is assuming it’s a bad egg and if I miraculously get pregnant again it’ll end in another chemical. Wondering whether to let this “off” cycle pass and try again in September or just go for it. Aghhhh!

Sorry for the rant!

Totally know where you’re coming from! And I’m sorry about your chemical. I think when these crap things happen we try and convince ourselves that there’s a logical reason behind it to try and make us feel more in control — when really it’s just rubbish luck. Definitely what I did with my miscarriage.

I read a ludicrous amount of stuff about late ovulation and apart from that one (old) study, everything said it didn’t matter. That said, if you’ve only tried once and got pregnant that time, it sounds like you’re pretty fertile and perhaps it would be better for your peace of mind to skip this cycle and try again when back on track. I’m sure it won’t take long either way xx

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I really appreciate it! It’s always helpful to know you’re not alone in having panicky thoughts and others have been through similar situations.

I hope everything goes really well with your pregnancy and hey, maybe for future readers I’ll keep the thread updated with what I decide to do and the outcome haha xx

I ovulated later on one cycle, I usually ovulate on cd18 and that cycle it was cd24. It resulted in DS, he’s now one and perfect.
