PDG tests?

Anyone used PDG tests sticks and had a faint negative?

Apparently the test is equivalent to 10mg/ml blood progesterone, and most users get a positive test at 3-6 dpo. I bought these tests as I was curious as one of my ovaries doesn't work as well - grows lots of cysts - and was curious as to whether I actually ovulate from that side.

This test is weird in that it's positive if there's only one line, negative if there's two.

Anyway out of curiosity I tested this month, when I ovulated from my good ovary, expecting a positive result on the eve of 6dpo. Apparently mine is negative. I would have expected it to be lower than normal (my LP is just 10-11 days) but not less than 10ng normal. I think it's 30ng to confirm ovulation, but I definitely ovulated as had ovulation pain and had BBT rise, sore boobs etc...

Are these tests just unreliable? I think I'm definetly going to pay for a blood test next month.

Ok apparently it's 10 ng/ml to confirm ovulation not 30.

Maybe you need to test again tomorrow? It says to take them every day from 5dpo. So you could get a positive later in your luteal phase.

Confusedddddddd · 10/04/2024 21:51

@Plumchumm yeh I'll try again tomorrow. Annoyingly I kept the test to compare it with tommorow - it now completely positive (no second line). I took the photo at the 5 minute mark, it says to read result between 5-10 mins. Now I'm wondering whether if I waited to 10 mins it would have been positive.

Urgh, now I regret buying these, should've just paid for a blood test.

Where do you get your blood tests from? I’d be interested in checking mine. I’m 1dpo just now.

A few places do them including Superdrug and Medichecks

Thank you :)) let me know what today’s result is!

Confusedddddddd · 11/04/2024 22:07

@Plumchumm it looks exactly the same as yesterday. I'm going to try with FMU tommorow - I'm just terrible at forgetting, - because definetly tonight wee was pretty dilute.

So weird, what dpo are you now? I bought those tests and they arrived today. I’m 1dpo so we’ll see in 5 days.

Confusedddddddd · 12/04/2024 08:12

8dpo but I ovulated late in the day on ovulation day. Line is even darker this morning meaning PDG is lower. But I had a huge BBT rise this morning, much higher then I've ever had even in the cycle in which I conceived my daughter which is leaving me a bit confused.

Hi hun, that’s very confusing. How’s it been since then?

Confusedddddddd · 15/04/2024 09:22

I've stopped using these tests, either they are inaccurate, or I actually have low progesterone but I'm going to get a blood test next cycle. I'm getting bunch of fertility tests anyway so it makes sense to also test that

Hi @Confusedddddddd I used the Proov ones this cycle and I did four tests at 6-9dpo, two were neg (medium levels rather than low) and two were pos. This meant ovulation was confirmed but perhaps my progesterone levels were a bit lower than ideal. At first I found this very confusing and unsettling, but there are some other symptoms that track with this, so I am going to try and address for next cycle.

The instructions did say to use FMU and to test at days 7-10 post OPK peak (or roughly 6-9dpo). So perhaps you were testing a bit early in the cycle and a bit late in the day?

But no harm doing the blood test if you want to know more.

Confusedddddddd · 15/04/2024 10:55

@CoolSummer89 thanks, the Proov ones are more expensive and actually have real reviews but most of the Amazon ones are paid for reviews so I don't trust them.

I've suspected my progesterone is low as LP is only 10-11 days but have fallen pregnant twice relatively easily despite this until the past year. So yeh the fact that 6-7-8 dpo were all negative suggests there might be a problem.

Just wanted to come back and update this to say that I had a exactly the same result last month and had my progesterone tested which came back low. The tests aren't dodgy after all.

OP posts:
CoolSummer89 · 15/05/2024 16:37

@Confusedddddddd thanks for updating. Very useful to know that they are a good indicator.
have you been given any advice on how to raise your progesterone?

Confusedddddddd · 15/05/2024 16:52

@CoolSummer89 not yet. I did the test through Randox, so have phoned my gp and asked to repeat it next cycle as I ovulated from my "bad ovary" - it has cysts, and also check things like thyroid . My result was 17.8 pmol, and usually 30 is needed to confirm ovulation - I think in my case I still ovulated but it's not enough for implantation.

@Confusedddddddd would you recommend these? I’m having a bit of a panic about not ovulating / low progesterone (had a chemical last month) and now I’m in the phase of obsessively figuring out what’s up 😂

I used these, got pregnant that month but still got a very faint line on the pdg tests. So I probs wouldn’t recommend, might cause more confusion

Confusedddddddd · 26/05/2024 23:28

@GreenPickle tbh I'd just go and get a Randox test - they sell them on Amazon - £30. Then at least you know for sure. In my case it was accurate I still had a line so low progesterone, and my Randox test was also low. But the Randox test gave me a number instead of doubting the tests.
I've now gone to the GP and doing a re-test this month.

@Confusedddddddd thank you ❤️ will take a look at this if I’m not successful in the coming months xx
