Acutely retroverted uterus?

Hi guys

Recently had a Hysteroscopy for polyp removal and the findings said I have a 'acutely retroverted uterus'. I already know my uterus is retroverted but what does acutely mean? It's stressing me out and not heard anything from the consultant yet.

It normally means extremely so I would imagine for you it means it’s extremely tilted backwards.

Great 🙃 just what I wanted to hear!

I have the same. Nothing to worry about.

Did they say yours is acutely retroverted too?

I have the same, plus a bicornate uterus (and PCOS to boot). Currently on a well-deserved tea break from looking after my 3 month old baby ☺️ Try not to worry and ask the specialist when you next see them.

Yes. Apart from it being more difficult to do a smear because the cervix is at a different angle, it has caused no issues at all.

KeyboardWhinger · 10/04/2024 16:02

Me too - I only found out when I had an ectopic pregnancy but made sense why my first child got wedged in when I gave birth! It’s no issue.

Thanks everyone, like I say I already knew I had a retroverted uterus but to find out it's extremely retroverted has worried me quite a bit

The uterus can move around, particularly once pregnant. I used to have a pretty retroverted uterus, according to every smear test nurse who couldn't find my cervix, and was told it would make no difference to anything. It's now anteverted thanks to a lovely posterior fibroid pushing things about internally.

Hi, I just learned that I have an "acute retroverted uterus" too and deeply worried. Did you manage to remove the polyps via the Hysteroscopy? My doctor could not perform it. Thank you so much for any information.

Yes I had my polyp removed under GA successfully and was benign 😊

Thank yo so much for the reply! I had two failed Hysteroscopy, the doctor simply can not reach the polyps. But I wasn't under GA. Could you please share some tips? Did you drink a lot of water before the operation? Thank you again. Your experience really gave me hope. @Spinkyttc

I originally went for a Hysteroscopy in office so I was awake, however the consultant couldn't access my womb so they decided to do it whilst I was asleep. I had 1 polyp under 1cm and it was completely removed. I honestly didn't do anything different. I am unsure why they can't remove them? Have they offered you a Laparoscopy instead?

He tried twice on two separate occasions and failed twice. He didn't offer a lap to remove polyp. But he did say it would be better to do it under GA next time but the success rate is only 80%. I am utterly confused, is he a 'bad' doctor or my case is very unique. However, he did say, it is not uncommon. I am seeing a new doctor next Monday and I will insist a GA. Can Laparoscopy also remove polyps? Thank you so much again. @Spinkyttc

I mean I don't know what that means tbh, and yeah a laparoscopy is keyhole so they would be able to remove them that way, it's just invasive and bigger surgery. Hopefully the new doctor will give you more hope

I've got retroverted and they removed my polyp. No GA but it was fine.

Thank you very much. I sincerely hope so.

@gettingolderbutcooler - Thank you so much for this information. Was yours acutely retroverted? Maybe there is a difference? At this stage, I am just not sure is it my doctor or it is me....
