Letrozole success story

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in a Letrozole success story, but I said to myself if it was ever successful (spoiler alert, it was!) I would share incase it helped anyone in the future, so hopefully someone stumbles across this thread and it does help!

I was diagnosed with PCOS after not having periods for 6 months coming off the pill. I was desperate to start a family so went straight to a private fertility clinic who tested my husband and I. I had very high AMH levels (meaning I had too many eggs, but all probably poor quality due to my PCOS and not having a period/ovulating) so I was told I would need an operation called Ovarian Drilling to create some holes in my ovary for the eggs to escape.

6 weeks after that procedure nothing was happening period/ovulation wise, so I requested to start Letrozole. I did my research and would always recommend Letrozole over Clomid. I was put on 2.5mg for Cycle 1 which did nothing. The next cycle I went up to 5mg which made me ovulate for the first time! We didn't get pregnant, but, on the second cycle of 5mg, we did...and I am currently 8 months pregnant!

Throughout the process detailed above, I wasn't in the best place and was listening to every podcast and on ever Mumsnet chat forum I could find, to try to find solace and others going through a similar journey, so I totally understand what you're going through 😢

If anyone would like to hear more about the above, I would be happy to answer any questions!!

I've just stumbled upon this thread while searching and wanted to thank you as it was helpful. Slightly different situation as I do have one child but it took 3 years to conceive her and I'm now 2 years into trying again with so far unexplained secondary infertility. I think because of my age (37) and fact I have very low AMH I'll be funding a monitored cycle privately. I'm a bit shocked at the price I've been quoted, which doesn't even include the Letrozole at over £700. I considered speaking to my GP but can't even get an appointment for 3 weeks and then I'd need to await a referral so just going to self-fund. If there's any advice at all you can share about this treatment I'd be so grateful. Do you know if they all start with 2.5mg to begin with or if this can be higher depending on circumstances (like my v low ovarian reserve). Just not sure how many cycles I can realistically afford! Thanks so much and I'm so glad you had success with this. It really gives me hope! 😊 X

Hi @secondtimelucky87, so glad my original post was helpful in some way and sorry you’ve been trying for so long, it really is a mental battle.

That sounds a lot of money! Each letrozole cycle for me was only about £10 and I collected it from a pharmacy once my private consultant had given me the prescription, so you are being ripped of if it’s £700. I was at a well known London clinic so you would expect prices to be higher. Each cycle cost about £270 which included a scan (which you don’t actually need), a blood test to confirm ovulation and the Letrozole medication.

I think you probably do have to start at 2.5mg, but if that’s doesn’t do anything the first cycle, push to try 5mg.

Ant other questions let me know!
