Stopping Nexplanon after 9 years

I have had Nexplanon back to back for almost 9 years now 😅 I’m 31 years old now. Thinking of taking it out in June/July and seeing what happens - our approach is very much - If we get pregnant great, if we don’t we don’t and that’s also okay. If we don’t, we won’t be pursuing the IVF route.

My period pre-contraception was always a nightmare, extremely long and just horrible and always always irregular.

While on Nexplanon, I’ve been feeling good, with no side effects at all, sometimes I have a period sometimes I don’t, sometimes is very long and sometimes is super short or just spotting, it’s very much wet finger in the air situation…

In the last couple of years I’ve been officially diagnosed with endometriosis - I had keyhole surgery done privately. I’ve seen the pictures after the procedure - it’s there, but not severe. This would explain my irregular, painful periods. I was offered a Mirena coil but I refused it. I also have a simple cyst on one of my ovaries🙄 - nothing to worry about.

I don’t know how my body will react when I take the implant out, my biggest worry is that due to how irregular my period has always been, I was never able to correctly track my cycle. I don’t expect my periods to be miraculously regular after I stop contraception.

I’m a bit lost on how to track it, should I try measuring my temperature? Should I just don’t bother with counting days and go with the flow? There is of course small chance that I will get pregnant straight away after stopping the implant, but knowing our luck (or shall I say complete lack of it ! ) that’s probably not gonna happen.

I had mine taken out just before the new year after nine years back to back. There are plenty of stories out there of people conceiving immediately and I was warned that ovulation can occur very quickly after but I'm still not entirely sure if I ovulated in January or not. My periods are heavier than they were on the implant but nowhere near what they were when I first went on contraception to try and get a control on them.

If you're planning a more laid back approach I would just use an app to track your periods to begin with (I use Flo) and it will be able to predict ovulation. You can then see if ovulation symptoms match with the prediction. OPKs are useful for pinpointing the exact timing but do add an extra layer of stress and pressure and I've not tried measuring bbt as I just don't think I'd manage.

I don't have endometriosis so can't help with that side of it but I know there's many ladies around these boards who have successfully conceived. 🙂

Thank you for taking time to respond to my post.

Definitely taking relaxed approach but at the same time I do care about getting pregnant and want to give myself the best chance rather than "hope for the best". I guess, subconsciously I just want someone to tell me - this and that will happen and that precise time - which is obviously impossible 😂
I am scared, anxious, excited, worried, happy and feeling all the feels. I will definitely try the app 🤞🏻
