How long to conceive after Nexplanon removal?

I am due to have my Nexplanon implant removed at the start of next month with a view to start TTC #2. First time round we had been using condoms for a while before we started so didn't have to factor in waiting for cycles to return and hormones to stabilise etc.

I know that you can theoretically get pregnant within a week according to their website but I'm interested to know how long it took people in practice?

It’s really unlikely to get pregnant the first week of removing it the hormones and stuff are still really all over the place in my experience and friends.
I had mine removed mid September 2023 and had a period in October, I’ve never had irregular periods or anything before having it in though so I’m sure everyone is different! I concieved at the end of December so fairly quickly although not all that intentionally 🤣
best of luck with it all! Don’t stress if you don’t get a period the first month too so many places online say it can be up to 12 weeks until it returns everyone’s different x

@Ptfcangel - thanks, yes, thought it seemed pretty unlikely that pregnancy would occur immediately and it would seem logical that it would take a while for things to regulate considering the effect it has on the body. It took us a fair while to get pregnant last time with no contraception in my system so just trying to be realistic about what the consequences might be.

I had my nexplanon taken out on 07/02/2024 with the view to ttc immediately. To be honest, I wish that I had taken it out sooner because my cycle was much longer on the implant compared to the "norm" so trying to figure out when I am likely to be ovulating was tough as I knew my cycle would probably change over the months following removal. It's logical to think that it would take some time for hormones and cycle to settle down but I'm a bit impatient 😆.

I had some form of period on 13/03/2024 which was my first since getting the implant taken out but it was more like spotting and only lasted a few days. I am using ovulation sticks to try and help me figure out when I am ovulating and they have all been negative or had a very faint line which is also a negative.

Today, 2 weeks after my period started, I've had my first positive ovulation test which I am really surprised and happy with. I'm trying to not get too excited though because I know it usually takes a while but just having something definitive has made me feel positive and feel like I might be getting a bit of a grip on my cycle now.

Luckily me and my husband done the deed this morning before I tested so possibly we might of caught the window for conception but if not I'll know for next cycle to try a few days before I'm due to ovulate.

Wishing you all the luck :)

2 pregnancies, both within the first cycle / first 1-2 months after removal

This is so similar to me.
I had my implant out November. Had 2 cycles at "normal" length.

Had nothing since bar 2 days of spotting. Literally posted a couple of hours ago about whether ovulation sticks would be a good way to go. I wish you the best with your TTC journey.

I think I will get some.

And OP, best of luck as well. I wish I had taken mine out sooner than I did. But hey here we are 😊

Thanks all - interesting to hear different experiences. I haven't had regular 'periods' (know they aren't really periods anyway) since having my implant fitted so guess I'll just have to wait and see in terms of the return of my cycle. Got a big box of OPKs to hand so I can start testing again and figure out what's going on...

Our original timescale to start TTC was August but I pushed to get the implant out a little earlier and now I'm glad I did!

I didn't keep note of any dates, but i know i was surprised by how quick it was. My periods were all over the place and I wasn't even trying to track when I was most likely to fall pregant (and I only saw my then partner at weekends anyway) so I don't think it made it it take any longer than it probably would have anyway 😂

I think maybe I'm focusing too much on tracking! 😬😬😬

Reading everything on here I've realised that everyone's experience is totally different and unique to them. I can image how frustrating it can be reading about everyone's success once you've been trying for a while :(. I'm just going to try and keep pushing on with tracking my cycles, ovulation sticks and testing if I think I could be pregnant.

I took another ovulation test last night and it was still positive so I'm hoping that I've been really lucky and caught my "peak time". I took another test this morning and the line is definitely fainter than it was yesterday.

Good luck to everyone ttc, I'm sure we will all get there. I'm just concentrating on not putting too much pressure on myself and husband and enjoy the journey.

@oldgreysquirreltest OMG, that's amazing! Were you tracking ovulation or anything? Presumbaly you didn't have a bleed between removal and pregnancy?
