How reliable are the cheapies?

Bit of a weird one… I had a frozen embryo transfer last Weds & was certain it hadn’t worked. Let myself cry for probably the first time in this hellish journey. Even ordered supplements for what felt our inevitable next IVF cycle.

I have none of my usual symptoms and I’ve been pregnant 3 times. Symptoms appeared bang on time every time. So I’m not feeling optimistic.

But, I did a cheapy test last night and there’s a super faint line. Test again this morning & think it’s darker. Just tested again and it’s darker again but all the lines are SUPER faint.

I never normally use these types
of tests so I’m wondering what your experiences have been?

Generally really reliable. Last Wednesday is not even a week ago. When are you expected to test? If the usual method of pregnancy you wouldn’t be testing for another week.

Thanks @Fast800 . It was a 5 day transfer and my testing day is next Monday but I’m not torturing myself for another week. I’d rather move on and focus on the future.

I’ve always tested positive 7 days post transfer and it’s common to have lines as early as 5 days but really depends on implantation.

I've found cheap tests very reliable with both of my previous pregnancies.

Fast800 · 19/03/2024 15:06

In which case, if your testing very early I would expect very faint lines 🤞🏻

Thanks all. Heading out for a FRER this evening.

Couldn’t find a proper FRER so got a Clearblue & have a vvvvvvv faint line. Looks like a shadow so lord knows. I have another for the morning.

I have also found cheapies very reliable.
Even after a MC they picked up HCG when my level from a blood test was just 15!

Sad to say this morning my other Clearblue test was a clear negative and the cheapie stick had the exact same vvv faint line as yesterday so I think I’ve just had bad luck with dodgy tests :(

i think others have said clear blue haven’t been as sensitive? The cheap tests are generally reliable especially as you have had multiple lines I assume within the maximum timeframe?

do you have photos if you’d like to post?

opentoadvice88 · 20/03/2024 18:57

It’s an early Clearblue 🫤. I’m going to test again on Friday but I’m 99% sure I’m out.

I have this snap from yesterday’s test. The lines are so faint it’s hard to see them.

All lines appeared in the timeframe

They look like my early positives. As hard as it is wait a couple of days and test again.

opentoadvice88 · 20/03/2024 20:17

Thanks @SpinningTopps , will do. I would kill for just one symptom!

My week got more bizarre. Took a First Reponse rapid test and had a line. Not even a faint one, a solid pink line.

Test with a regular FRER today and a stark negative. I have one left for the morning & if nothing then I’m having a glass of wine tomorrow & stopping the ivf meds.

So I’ve had 8 false positives, 7 super faint and one solid. What fun.

Ok… I went to look at that frer again and it did have a faint line.

Finally got a Clearblue early digital this afternoon and… PREGNANT.

I think it’s concerning how faint the lines are (& no symptoms) though so will arrange a blood test with my clinic. At least we can rely on the cheapies afterall!

Sorry it’s all so confusing, hopefully sounds like good news though and the doctor confirms, crossing fingers for you!

Crossing everything for you OP

Thanks ladies 😊

I’ve got extremely faint test today (you’d need glasses & tilting to the right light) so I guess it’s a chemical.

Onto our next IVF cycle. Sigh! We’ll get our baby eventually!
