Hi has anyone got any success stories in regards to hyperthyroidism and getting pregnant? (After starting treatment/speaking to specialist) i have recently been told my thyroid levels are high and also have pcos so been struggling to conceive to begin with and now being told that i shouldn’t ttc yet, just wondering if anyone has an over active and managed to have a baby, i am feeling rather upset by the news

I have underactive and I've got a toddler and 34 weeks pregnant with number 2

Once your levels are in a good position the thyroid issue should not cause any problems

Good luck x

@nwdx hey thanks for replying & i think with an over active thyroid its more dangerous i am not 100% sure as i am yet to get an appointment with a specialist

Yes me. My was under active and my levels were too high so I begged my GP for some thyroxine and had no joy because my levels were still classed as normal (even though too high for TTC). Decided to cut out all the middle men so to speak and went for a private consultation with a fertility expert. I took a copy of my latest bloods from my NhS tests and he immediately did me a private prescription for thyroxine 50mg (cost £45 for a private prescription, plus £200 for the consultation) and I got pregnant within 6 weeks.

We had been TTC for a year before then and I also have PCOS.

Never underestimate how much influence your thyroid levels have on your ability to get pregnant, especially for PCOS. If you can afford it, go private because the NHS and GPs are really not cut out to deal with this. In my opinion anyway.

Good luck 🍀

I have graves hyperthyroidism. I've had 2 successful pregnancies since diagnosis. Before that I'd had several early miscarriages, probably because of very high T4 levels.
If you do decide to TTC, get pregnant and are taking carbimiazole you need to ask for it to be changed over to the pregnancy safe drug (Ppu) as soon as you have a positive test. This is because if you take carbimiazole while between 8 and 12 weeks pregnant it can lead to finger and hand deformaties in the baby.

Hi. I have been TTC for over a year, had bloods done in October which showed abnormal thyroid results and then further testing led to being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in Nov/Dec. My levels have stabilised now so hoping for BFP soon. I was put on Propylthiouracil straight away instead of the other drug as the endocrinology clinic knew I was TTC. Make sure that you are put straight on to it.

Best of luck!

@Jellybelly888 Hi! Could I please ask what your symptoms were with your under active thyroid? We've been TTC for 16 months and I'm wondering if mine is under active, going for a blood test tomorrow.
