AMH 7.1 pmol/l, total antral follicle 15

I'm about to turn 38 and have just started TTC.

I had a fertility test/MOT done last August and the results were:

AMH 7.1 pmol/l, total antral follicle 15

The doctor said this was at the lower end of average for my age - particularly singling out the AMH.

I have no context or experience in this area. Is it particularly low? Wondering if anyone else has got pregnant with this AMH level?

Very grateful for any thoughts x

Just my 2 cents as I’m sure experiences will vary. I had similar AMH aged 32. I did successfully conceive naturally after about a year ttc, but for you it’ll be the egg quality now that plays a major role. I sought private clinic early fertility tests aged 35 when ttc no2, and I was advised that whilst the lower AMH is not a major problem, I should also not waste any time in seeking fertility treatment.

AMH is not a great measure of anything but 7.1 is fine for 38 mine was 5 at the age of 32. As long as you are ovulating the AMH is irrelevant. The bigger factors are age and follicle count which is looking good for you if doing IVF but a completely useless number to tell you anything about natural conception to be honest.

Your worst factor is your age i am afraid but plenty of people get pregnant at 38 but the quality of your eggs may be a bit worse than a younger person.

But there's nothing there giving me concern

I'm 36 and my AMH is 9.1 - no follicle count this time but when I had it done at 33 it was 14.4, AFC 21 (and I conceived naturally the following month). As your doctor said, the level is the lower end of average but still within the reference range. someone told me that AMH is really only much use as a metric if (1) you're trying to decide whether to TTC now or in 3 years time or (2) in the context of IVF for assessing treatment protocols. If you're already trying to conceive and you're ovulating regularly then you're on the right track in that respect.

Hi @Hairydairyfair belated reply but wanted to point out that my sister had a baby at 40 with AFC 7 and FSH 17 (unsure what her AMH was). She was about to start IVF after several miscarriages but then got pregnant naturally. I'd say you have everything to play for.
