Might be a dumb question… does new sperm from more recent DTD replace older sperm that have been there a few days? Or do they all have an equal chance?

We have DTD for the last 5 days since Friday, so over the weekend and up to and including today.

I had a positive OPK on Sunday afternoon, peak OPK very late last night (Monday).

Does DTD again today mean those sperm are more likely to fertilise the egg or do they all have an equal chance if there’s some already waiting? 😆 the things you ponder when TTC. Thank you!

I have no idea but what a gross thought 😂 them just hanging around waiting 😬

I don’t know for sure but I’d imagine that the earlier sperm would have a greater chance as they’d have had a chance to swim further down the tubes.

Sperm only live about 3 days and interestingly "female" sperm are heavier and live longer but "male" sperm swim faster. Also older sperm that have got to the egg first release proteins to break down the cell wall of the egg helping fresher sperm get in there, so while it only takes one sperm to fertilise the egg it actually is a bit of a team effort to make it happen!
